154mph on a public road....

Do you think the length of ban is

The biggest cause of road accidents in this country is driver inattention, not speed. Undoubtedly this guy was an idiot and hopefully he has learnt his lesson. I rode back from Bristol to Cornwall yesterday and nearly had three accidents all caused by morons not paying attention. In the summer in Cornwall so many visitors are too busy looking at the scenery to look at the road they are driving on, there is one spot where at least 50% of the cars will either brake heavily or end up on the wrong side of the road as a particular view appears. It is very easy to lambast this guy and call for a harsher sentence, but would probably be more productive if people looked at their own driving habits.

What a non story.

He broke an arbitrary speed limit, nobody was hurt, nobody else was in danger (as far as I can see from the article) so why has everybody got their pitchforks out ?

so was it a totaly empty road in both directions all the time he was driving at a high speed ? ( i havnt read the article )

Probably a right prat and I would have given him a community service sentence doing something that meant everyone took the p*** out of him.

Then execute the b*****d :)

Hum a tuned Seat Leon FR2 so that must have taken a while to build up to. Top speed of the standard car is around 140, about 7 secs 0-60, so with the gearing he must have been holding it there for a while at top revs. It wasn't like a high performance vehicle with a "quick squirt, see what it'll do, whoa how fast, slow down, slow down..."

A11 by Elvedeen is right by Center Parks, is that dual carriageway now or still single lane road, plus forest with deer etc and then the fiveways roundabout? Possibly not the best decision of a place to pull excessive speed, especially as the A11 is known for speed checks.

However he was 20 and we all do silly things when 20. My gut feeling is he was caught, punished, the implications for him and his job are huge, the sentence may seem light but we don't know all the circumstances. Someone gets some luck with sentencing.

Rather like this chap who should really have known better. His colleagues reported him due to his excessive speed in residential areas, only then did the motorway speed get found out

A11 is dualled all the way now (elveden has been bypassed - thankfully) and it even has bat bridges through the forest (I kid you not.)

Yes, still plenty of deer around, often see some venison at the side of the road!)

One of our Ford Focus pool cars hit one at approx 50mph... Car was a mess... (so was the deer)... Driver called me up.. in tears.. "what should I do?"
"Bung it in the boot and go to the nearest butcher" was not the answer she expected.

As a rough indicator Seat leon's of a similar tune are being exhibited on youtube for top speed runs (0-271kmh (154mph being 247kmh) and they are taking approximately 30 - 40 seconds to achieve top speed.

He quotes that his car is tuned to 270BHP (420nm) which is the same ponies near as dammit as a Cupra R and almost the same torque as the Cupra 310 edition.

Every day I drive along the A316 and M3 and you see a lot of cars weaving in the lanes....Driver's eyes looking down at their phones. Like the old trick of trying to cover the phones with their hands when making a call..."honestly I am not using my phone, you can't see me using it"

Speed does not kill, hitting something at speed does...

Speeding is a scourge and although some people may be able to control their cars at these speeds not everyone can. As pointed out it's not just him he should be worrying about though. If someone else does something silly in front of him he'll be hard pushed to avoid them and at that speed I would imagine death is almost a given. Speed camera's all along the roads would curtail this. I know most people hate them but they're going to slow down if they will get caught, banned and even jailed in exceptional circumstances.

Just to be clear on my voew about speeding

Near a school or a 20..never

On a clear clean dual carirageway / motorway.. I will nudge 90... yes it is wrong, yes it is speeding, however at 70, i get bored, play with the radio etc.. at 90, I am looking 1/2 mile ahead continually assessing anything and everything.. more alert

True story - coming back from very oop North, A1M at Peterborough I was driving Sharon's Megane (at the time) .. 4 lanes of emptiness.. apart from a micra in lane 2, so i went lane 1 - 3 - 1... at 86pph.. (so i was told)

Next thing.. 5 series unmarked (screams in front with lights abaziing!"

checked the car.. nothing wrong.. got told to be a good boy..

And the lane 2 hogger got off scot free no doubt :(

Well a public flogging at least :D

yep, I too got off but with a bollicking... "now follow me, and once you gert to 50, join the carriageway....."
"Yes Sir"
few sec's later.. Mrs S..."You're gaining on him, oops 80!"

Did the Manchester airport run last night, flight arrival was 23.15 and I set off at 10pm. It only takes about 50 mins to get to the airport, but I plodded along at roughly 65mph. The amount of people screaming past me, easily doing a ton plus, and in the dark :(. I try to allow myself plenty of time to get places. No point in setting of at the last minute, then hammering it to get there on time.

This guy is a moron. Motorways have speed limits for safety. Excessive dangerous speeds always result in death when there is an accident. He should have had at least a five year ban and the car crushed. A friend of mine was killed by a idiot like him.(n)

Very strange. Maybe trying a `cash for cash` jobby?

Nah just a silly driver who forgot how long trucks take to stop, especially with a heavy load. No doubt the driver has done this to other drivers before. There was a little afters from the trucker as well on the hard shoulder.

Agree totally, defo a silly thing to do, but don't understand why. (apart from just being an @r5e)
The car was way behind the wagon as it moved over to let traffic filter onto the m/way. All the car driver needed to do was filter on & then gradually overtake the wagon.
The wagon driver was ready & about to change back to lane 1 anyway, but the stupid chunt had driven up along his nearside. (crossing solid white lines, incidentally)

Too short a ban.
Too small a fine.
No retest, which is not mandatory, but clearly the fool needs some educating.

After a 2 yr ban, a larger fine and an extended retest, I'd also limit him, for a further three years, to driving nothing more powerful than a naturally aspirated 1L car.

You can still be a danger in a 1.0L car. My Micra can do 90mph... Do that in a 30 zone and you're just as much as a menace as you would be in a Dodge Viper. Admittedly, you're less likely to WANT to drive like that in a Micra :)

Here's hoping, given his age and conviction, his insurance goes through the roof.

Mechanic.. probably on some kind of trade insurance thingy.

Which was really the point, especially for a young man. Perhaps we can also stipulate that it be bright pink, and powered by fairy dust.

Possibly, but unless it's his own garage, there's a hope that his personal vehicle isn't included.

and once again, we digress from the main point... (i,e....., the thread)

The caliber of person we are dealing with!
If i caught my son speeding like that and giving the bird in the context he is giving it i would tan his a*se something silly.

Yet another youngster who thinks they are better than the law.

Yes indeed. Someone who can't say either (a) I've been stupid, or (b) I've been very lucky, but just - Up Yours.

I hope the request to review the sentence is granted and perhaps the above can feature as an indication of this character's level of contrition.

Its a huge contributing factor and sometimes cause in fatalities though.

He wasnt trained to drive at that speed, so his attention to the speed limit was lacking.

He is better than the law, proven by the sentence imposed.

Youngsters these days have too many rights not enough responsibility

To be honest, do you know in what context that image was taken. Was he being insulted by someone, was a journalist harassing him? You're just implying your own view on that image.

I am entitled to imply my own view.
Even if he was being heckled, resorting to flicking the bird just shows of his mentality anyway.

A fair point, we don't know the context.

Again I'm guessing but I suspect, given the speed, it was quite a high profile case and perhaps he should not have been surprised if the press or someone else was having a go at him. He could have chosen to ignore it.

To be fair he looks like a cock, so should have a tougher sentence.

TBH I thought that was the standard greeting these days, from motorist to motorist.

Or at the very least, used as a "Thank you" when someone forces their way into a gap that wasn't there in the first place.
They always seem to say "Thank you" (for letting me almost cause an accident) in that manner.

Cobra beat me to it. Seems standard on the roads these days

What is your problem with small things like that?! The guy didn't kill or even harm anyone at all. Focus on jihadists, terrorists, globalists, Hillary et all.

That's the attitude I'd expect from someone stupid enough to call their website "Long Lens Photography" when all the images are wide angle.

The guy got what he deserved according to the judges, and I'd leave it at that instead of frothing all over TP about such non-news.

Let me guess... you either regularly speed, or have been prosecuted for speeding.

The world is going towards major crisis or even self-destruction but that is OK, because it is liberal to ignore what doesn't suit your narrative.

So we can only talk about major news events can we? Can't talk about anything else?

Sorry, you're an idiot. You can get caught doing 35mph four times and get banned, yet hammering a crap hot hatch at v-max on public roads is only worth a £350 fine and a couple of months off? It sends the wrong message. It says, "If that's all he got for doing that, then no one's gonna be bothered about me doing 50 in a 30 zone".

I take your point but you know sometimes you setup a website and your business takes a different direction. It is far from ideal but it happens. I'm not too keen on change to something new and losing all search rankings and people's bookmarks, etc unless you are clever enough to give me a specific advice on that. Doubt it.

No and no. Sorry to break your illusions.

Calling names I feel exactly the same about you. If you must think so narrowly inside the little cardboard box you should perhaps think why we ARE NOT discussing or a very afraid to openly discuss any major events right now? Why are we bowing down to regressive PC brigade? I don't mind you being outraged about a few road t***s like him (and I do myself when I go near Birmingham) however it is ignorant and idiotic to supplant the reality with small minor irritations like this.

I am fed up with ignorant individuals who cannot see beyond their nose and trendy paradigms yet pretend to be judges, spiritual leaders and mental doctors. You are neither.

You often take the role of judge yourself on these forums, so I'd tread carefully on the shaky ground when accusing others.

Although it is likely, there is no evidence this lad is a regular speeder. But if you are mug enough to get caught speeding 4 times, you obviously haven't learnt your lesson and deserve to be banned.

Anyone stupid enough to get caught doing over double the speed limit deserves to have driving privileges removed on a permanent basis.

So it's ok as long as you don't get caught ?
