Anything you recommend?

Some guy on another forum gets great results copying with his digital camera, as you have one, it might be interesting (and a money saver) looking into this.

Any links? :)

The Nikon Coolscan 8000/9000 does 120 film but they're not cheap.

I've got an Epson perfection 3200 that I scan 35mm, 120 and LF negs on. Picked it up for £40 from Jessops. Could try eBay?

If you're serious I'd suggest getting something with an adjustable hieght film carrier. The standard one in my EPSON 4490 isn't particularly well focussed.

Before I got a decent dedicated scanner, I had a flatbed, I wasn't happy with the flatbed so for a while I was slide copying my 6x6's.
I used a light table with a sheet of black plastic with a 6x6 hole cut in it placed on top, and shot with a D200 and 50mm macro lens.

here are a couple, they're on page 2 of the show us your film shots thread, they're ok for low res webby shots, nothing much more..

The epson F3200 is a top scanner I have been looking for one for ages but they are as rare a rocking horse teeth.

I scan 120 on an Epson V700. Haven't scanned any colour yet but have done a few B&Ws. I mightn't be the best example because I've only started self dev recently so hard to know who to blame for the few imperfections .

Here's a couple of examples scanned at well below full scanner potential:

i use a Epson 4990 flatbed scanner with BetterScanning adjustable hight carriers.

Are the adjustable height carriers worth the money and have they made a difference? I tried jacking my standard carrier up with bits of paper and I ended up getting a really nasty strip down one edge of the frame, looked like a light leak or reflection of some sort.

I have the Epson V500, its a great scanner for 6x6 and quite cheap. They have just bought out the v600...

I use a Canon Canoscan 8000F. Out of the box, it comes with carriers for 35mm slides and negs, so using one of those as a pattern, I cut a carrier out of black board for 2 1/4" square slides and it seems to work just fine.

I've a Canoscan 8800F and it comes with carriers for 2x6 strips of 35mm, 4xmounted 35mm slide or up to 22cm long strips of 120 film (so 3 shots on 6x6, 4 shots of 6x4.5). Comes with a canon specific version of Silverfast SE which is pretty good (though I find it as user friendly as a cornered rat!) or Scangear which is far easier to get to grips with (but i've found that the quality isn't quite what I've managed to get from Silverfast.) All in all I'm happy with the results i've had from it. Indeed a freind of mine (ex-pro 'togger and minilab owner is in the process of getting his old portfolio tranny shots converted to dijical by me, rather than sending it for a drum-scan - though that could be something to do with the amount of spotting in that they're needing after being in a portfolio for upto 20 years

I'm in the same boat. Looking for a good scanner, but I am concerned about DMax. The Epson V600 looks awesome, as it's capable of scanning up to 6x22CM MF neg strips. However, DMax is only 3.4, not the 4.0 of the V700/750 scanners. Has anyone got / used the V600 for 120 slide film?

That's an odd looking one that is, I had a shot at one a few years ago but the reviews were never that good for what they cost.
Had a load of buttons on the front and a sliding draw or something....

I'm using a Epson V500 for all my 120 stuff

Everything 6x6 photo on here was scanned with mine

Nice scans. Can you give us some more information about the resolution and settings you scan at to get those results.

Yeah the Epson 3200 is a bit of and odd machine. A friend has one and they are a little fiddle to get right (software not great) but after a bit of messing they can produce some very good scans espically form the larger formats.

I got a Microtek 120 which is very good, mind you the SilverFast Software is pants :gag:

I got the V600 at the beginning of the year, it makes a nice job of negatives but I've not tried slides.

I scan at 2400dpi and use the Auto Exp in Epson scan and High Dust removal (NOT DIGI ICE THOUGH!!)

Then in PS

Curves, Levels, Healing Brush (to 100% get rid of dust), Auto Levels

Then save that, so that then becomes my high res file

For web I've created a Action to resize and do stuff, I'll have a look tomorrow to see the different steps it takes
