I do appologise as I am sure you are all fed up with people asking for generic film advice, but alas, here I am!

So, I have shot some FP4 and am pleased with the results. I have also shot some Velvia and Provia 100F and whilst I need to work on my ability to use it properly, I would like to try out some other low ISO colour films (neg or slide).

I'd very much appreciate your thoughts on different films. Obviously, as per the title, they need to be available in 120 rolls :)

Many thanks!

Kodak portra 160nc is my favorite film low saturation and looks awesome.

I normally use flickr to see what film is like..

I love the stuff. You can get it in two types - NC (Neutral Colour- gives great skin tones) and VC (Vivid colour)

I think these were on 160VC - well out of date too, by at least a couple of years, although kept in the fridge.

Like the suggestions so far!

The NC version of the portra 160... is it noticeably desaturated by comparison? I only ask, because I shoot mainly landscapes (just to add something to the mix there :D) and usually I prefer the more saturated look. That said, I am open to all suggestions :)

It looks a bit like this, just more of a natural colour compared to provia/velvia. Great for portraits and can be good for landscapes in front of a good eye :D

I can't say I've shot any Johnathan, but it's beloved of wedding togs and portrait togs for great skin tones, so Liam's example is pretty much what I'd expect.

This was taken seconds after but with Provia 100 (35mm) no photoshopping on either.

Ahh ok, thanks for clearing that up chaps. I actually rather like that look in Liam's first shot. I also equally like the colours in the second shot.

I believe I shall add the Ektar and portra 160NC to my list of films to try :)

Any more for any more? :D

I vote for Fuji Astia film (although I think it is soon to be discontinued)

I also like Kodak E6 film the Extrachrome VS or G variety as it sems to have a more "warmer" glow which like.

fuji 160S is my colour neg choice, it's like the portra but i prefer the fuji colour rendition to portra. It's nothing I can put my finger on but the Fuji is my favourite

I agree on the Fuji Pro 160s being a great film. I started shooting on that recently and really liking the colours. Although, from looking at others photos, I'm quite liking the Ektar 100 too. I am currently shooting on that so will be an interesting comparison

I'm going to stick my oar in with Ektar...I'm getting a roll processed tomorrow and scanned so I might be able to share a photo or two...think I've got a suitable one on the roll that will give you an idea of what it can do!

Aha! More suggestions. Many thanks indeed everyone! My plan is to get at least one roll of each on my next purchase and use them all as I go.

karmagarda, that'd be excellent, I look forward to seeing them :)

Also, just briefly, what is the difference between fuji pro160S and pro160C?

Thanks!

I gots 9 rolls of ood Astia 100f, chuck us an addy Woodsy and I'll send you a couple...:)

Also, just briefly, what is the difference between fuji pro160S and pro160C?

It's a similar thing to Kodak's VC and NC, pro160s is less saturated and more for skin tones, 160c is more saturated and better for landscapes. I personally like them both, and 400h, but I generally go for fuji rather than kodak.

Oh, for black and white I highly recommend HP5+. I love the results from it. All of my 120 B&W film stuff is on HP5+, although I've seen others achieve even better results

Tell me it isn't true!

This again....?
I dunno, maybe there is no smoke without fire.
As far as I know its discontinued in Large Format 5x4 10x8 sheets, that's it.
Its unlikely 35mm will discontinue but who knows..
M/F is the safest...

As far as I'm aware, Astia 100f is going to continue to be manufactured in Japan, however I don't think it's going to be imported and distributed over here unless someone other than Fuji sorts that out.

It's interesting the difference in colour rendition between different emulsions of the same image. I took a shot on velvia at almost the same time as your shot martin a few degrees anticlockwise of your viewpoint and the difference is immense, I'll post it up when I'm on my own computer. It's a fair bit under your exposure but the colour difference is still massive

I've got a version on FP4+ as well to contrast with it. Fair difference in the tones, though that's probably due to dev as much as emulsion.

Wow, this is awesome
Thanks Liam :)
