There used to be a 12-24mm full frame lens, for a Nikon fit, it's quite an older lens if I remember correctly, but I can't remember who made it, does anyone remember this lens, and could nudge me in the right direction, I can't seem to find it on a google search, thanks in advance

There are several generations of Sigma lens in that zoom range that were available for F mount if I remember correctly

Yep. Used to have one. Stupidly wide but quite fun.

I had the Sigma 12-24 too (still do in A mount). Try usedlens.co.uk (run by a member)
to see who's got copies and the range of prices.

Yup, Sigma do a 12-24. It's very well corrected as far as rectilinear distortions go but (as per the laws of physics!) perspective can get pretty extreme!

I had the Sigma - used it a lot on a D300, (DX) - I always thought that it was a very good lens

Here are a few images - @18mm because of the DX cropped sensor, (v FF)

sorry I don't have any images taken with a FF

Yes it must of been the Sigma, I thought there was a Tamron with VC too, but it could of been a cropped sensor version, I will have to take a closer look at that Sigma, it doesn't look like it would take filters though.

I think the only full frame 12mm lens that would take filters is the new Nikon z12-24

1/2 right. It doesn't have a filter thread but it does have a slot behind the rear element for solid colour filters. I have feeling that there might be a Lee adaptor for the front but it might be rather expensive. It's possible to use blutack or similar to bodge (large) grads or a polariser to the built-in lens hood but that would introduce a severe risk of letting light between the lens and the filter.

Yes, I use the Sigma 12-24mm though a Canon fit. The filter issue is not a problem to me because I do not use any filters.

Is it a sharp lens throughout, for landscapes ?

I had one back in my Canon DSLR days and it was IMO more than sharp enough but its main features for me were the wide view and the almost total lack of distortion you'd expect to see with such a wide lens.

It does have some distortion issues though LR will correct this. It is not as sharp as the Canon 10-22mm I used to use but that was an APS-C lens. It may not be a problem to you, but it is unusable for infrared with flare and soft edges. Fortunately, my IR converted camera is an APS-C and I use the 10-22mm which is excellent for IR.

I had the Canon 10-22mm and IMO that APS-C lens just is not in the same class as the FF Sigma 12-24mm.

You are entitled to your view, but DX0Mark rate the Canon higher and state:

"In conclusion, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is a good lens for landscape, thanks to its low chromatic aberrations and its minimum distortion." My own experience over many years is that the Sigma is inferior though I am still using it occasionally as it is wider than any of my Sony lenses. As I stated it is hopeless for infrared but that may not be a requirement for you or the OP.

I had a MK1 version and I'd say it's adequate rather than great. MK2 allegedly better.

Are you talking about the cropped sensor lens, as I am asking for information about the full frame Sigma 12-24mm lens, also I have no interest in IR, my main concern is the sharpness of the lens in question.

As Toni says, it's adequate and gets better at f/8 - f/11. Plenty good enough for A3+ prints but the exaggerated perspective can leave corner details a bit smeary.

I originally bought it for my FF Canon 5D2 and continued to use with my FF 5D4. However, it can also be used on many smaller sensors. Its sharpness is fine in the central area but is softer towards the edges.
