I wouldn't pay £1300 for one of these...personally experience.

Having shot with most of Nikon's 300mm's and the Sigma 120-300 all I'll say is that I can understand why it was returned under the no quibble policy.

My Bro in Law has one, and my 300mm f/4 AF-S trounces it. The gap between a Nikkor f/2.8 prime and this is even wider.

General web wisdom has it that the 120-300 is better, and apparently Sigma themselves said this (although I never found a source for that statement)

i work alongside someone virtually every week who uses one and the resultant images from it are trash, she bought my MKII from me and thats done little to improve image quality, very very soft and tends to darken images by a stop.
