Its probably Ok... a quick test would be to focus on a chimney 200 yards away, wide open at f/2.8.

If its hazy then don't buy it!
 
As above really.
If it's on eBay ***, you obviously can't do this. But I wouldn't really buy an expensive lens off eBay just incase :)
