According to T3, the 11 gadgets that changed the world are:

1, Modem

2, iPhone

3, Digital Camera

4, Game Boy

5, Television

6, MP3 Player

7, Remote Control

8, Mouse

9, Personal Computer

10, Cash Machine

11, Kindle

Anything missing in your opinion? I think the PVR should be there. Sky+ took the baton from TiVo and in my opinion revolutionised how people watch the TV. And maybe the Hitachi Wand.

Even being generous, I'd only say that five of those meet the criteria that they "changed the world" (and even then, I'd substitute "cellular phone" for "iphone") and one of those five is doubtful (cash machine) as very large parts of the world remain unchanged by it.

Tbh I don't think the Gameboy or kindle "changed the world". Nor the iPhone exclusively.
Just my opinion.

Mobile phone yes, iPhone? no.

PVR? nope, they are/were a short lived item, broadcast TV is dying and will be/is being replaced by online programming.

Solar panels should be there, we may not see a huge advantage but in third world countries they're a godsend.

I was thinking they might of missed a bit and it was supposed to say, "Gadgets that changed the world of T3 readers". Then I realised that fleshlamp was missing from the list... :coat:

Was just thinking solar panels while looking at the list. Having electricity in remote places must be unbelievable, that or wifi
The next one will be the hydrogen powered car. That will impress me when it becomes popular if I'm alive to see it

I think a lot depends on the era that you grew up in.
Video recorders / players, what an invention! They brought cinema you your TV set.
Not only that, you could watch something and record something else for later.

Or you could argue colour telly, that was pretty special.
Our first video had a wire remote control and doubled up as a death trap when watching a movie in the dark

Nah.
The only difference between colour and be is colour :D

Makes watching the snooker easier, especially when commentators come out with things like " for those watching in black and white, the pink is just behind the blue" :D

Snooker is hardly a vehicle for "world change". :D

Video recorder is missing. PVR is just a digital copy of an analogue process.
Radio should be there.
Walkman not MP3 player.
Normal telephone is missing.

T3 readers are very recent in their outlook.

And the MP3 player in the above list did?

No.

I'd think there are maybe 3 on that list deserve to be there: -PCs, TV and the mobile phone. I had to google to find out what a hitachi wand was (I know, I know. I blushed though. I never knew such things existed  ) but that was a gadget that changed the world. Really?

This!... Well bits I understand :D

Radio and normal telephone I think should

.

Really? Pause live TV. Rewind live TV. Start watching a program from the beginning after it has started whilst still recording it etc etc. There is a vast difference.

I think you're right, the Walkman made a huge difference to the way people listened to music and it lead on to the mp3. The idea of personal music didn't really exist before the Walkman (unless you count the prats with boom boxes on their shoulders blaring out across the whole neighbourhood).

Not really, you just don't have to wait till the end of the program before watching it, hardly world changing.

It's brilliant.
But considering the number if people in the world with basic TV, and those with none, I'd still not class it as "world changing".

With all these additions to the list, maybe we should add a calculator :D

Why? having trouble keeping track?
You need a Filofax not a calculator :D

This is a modern world list. Surely the car, plane, tv, microwave, landline and mobile phone, radio, toaster, Google are a starter. I fact, what is a gadget?

There are many 'gadgets' but it depends on your age and the impact they have had on your life. There are many we take for granted that we wouldn't think of as a gadget

I thought the same earlier, that would make for a very long list tho

Suprised no one has mentioned ipad. Far more effect than kindle surely!

Kindle no.
But iPad price (and lack of cross genre compatibility) themselves out of ever changing the world.
Plenty of capable other tablet type platforms.

What about calculators, video recorder, maybe we should say just mobile phone my first was so big it was anything but mobile

My kids just cannot comprehend a world without Mobile phones or the Internet.

I can't believe I missed the Internet from my original list. Just goes to show my comment about people taking things for granted also applies to me.

From the dictionary:
a small mechanical device or appliance

Then VCRs and TVs et al are surely appliances rather than gadgets.

Yes there were smaller versions which followed, but the originals don't qualify by that definition :-)

Just a reminder, I didn't create the list. If you feel it's badly named why not take it up with T3.
