Yes
Will 1080p look just as good on a 4k ultra HD TV than it will on just a regular HD TV, or will it look worse? Went to currys earlier and the 4k TV's have one hell of a picture.

Just curious :D

Yes 1080p will look just as good, don't forget at the moment they're not a lot 4K material out their to watch at the moment :)

Probably will look a wee bit better, I think most of them try to upscale.

Exactly what I thought. To be honest I didn't know there was such thing as 4k until I read the release of the new Canon and saw the TV's today. will probably be a long time for it to kick off properly and Virgin/Sky etc start doing 4k boxes. The next gen gaming consoles will take a while to replace. It's not going to happen any time soon.

Keep in mind, in the shops they usually use a 4K source which, as simonblue says, there isn't much content for at the moment. Also, they deliberately set up the screens to to ultra-bright so they stand out amongst all the others and under the bright lights. It's very different to how you'd set it up in your home - I reckon you'd have dreadful headaches if you used the same settings at home for anything more than a few minutes.

When we got our HD telly 8 years ago, there wasn't a great deal in HD then
I certainly think UHD has better legs than 3D !!

Not looking to get one anyway, at least until there's more sources for UHD. I've had my 3d smart tv for about 5years now, never used the 3d, never used it as a smart tv lol

I can rarely be bothered to put my specs on to watch the box so even the HD we've got is a bit wasted - especially since 99% of the time we watch SD Sky (no HD box yet!) When I do put on a BluRay or select an HD Freeview channel, I put the specs on to get the benefit.

I've never liked upscaled content as much as the original at the original resolution. Whilst upscalers get better and better they are still creating something out of nothing.

A lot will depend on the upscaler, what the original source was and how good it is, and a lot will also depend on the size of the set and your viewing distance.
