105, 120 or none of the above??

If you ever see one in the UK, can you let me know? I've got ebay alerts for this lens, but never seem to catch one. At present it would appear they are all in Japan :(

Will do, I bought mine in March 2018 and checking my emails I was bidding on one in Dec 17 as well.

What's the exact spec of the lens that you're after Woodsy?

I'll gladly keep my eyes open out here as often I come across kit on eBay France that isn't listed on eBay UK.
Should one come up that you want but the seller won't send overseas or the purchase is simply not possible due to geographical locations then I'd be happy to help as a go between;)

At one time it was pretty much nailed on that gear here would be much more expensive than the UK but in recent years it seems to not be the case, indeed often the UK values appear extortionate so looking further afield is imo definetly worthwhile...

Is it not the one that you have just sold? In post#3 above the lens spec is in the Kerry Thalman quote, if I understand Woodsy correctly?

Thanks chaps :)

It's the Nikon (Nikkor) 90mm SW F/8 lens. Copal 0 shutter, ideally linhof style lens board.

At present I actually have the 90mm SW F/4.5, but it's a heavy beast and I want to lighten the load a little, even if at the expense of nearly 2 stops.

I looked into importing from Japan and risking the duty and VAT etc, but it added approximately £100 to the price tag, pain to return if there's an issue, yada yada yada.

Pretty sure Asha sold a schneider lens, no?

No I sold the Schneider Super Angulon 90mm F/8 ( in fact thinking about it i don't think I've updated the classifieds on here even if it's still active!)

Yes it was a schneider lens that i sold!

Noted the details and added to my alerts on fleabay.;)

As for Japan, I've never experienced problems or had need to return anything tbh....Always found the descriptions to be exact re condition etc. Perhaps I've simply been lucky!

Yes there are taxes / fees but sometimes it works out about what would be paid in europe / uk and of course the availabilty out there is typically much better....I wouldn't discount trading there altogether!

Eek! Mine was in my bag when I showed you the Ebony at Onich, so you could have tried it then. :$o_O You'll have first refusal along with the Ebony if I ever sell, mind.

If your eyesight is decent ( bear in mind that mine is rapidly deteriorating) then the lack of nearly two stops shouldn't pose a big problem …..I managed ok with the F/8 ( when i used it lol) but the F/9 max aperture on the 300mm offers a bright enough image on the GG of any of my cameras even in dimish light ( overcast dull days; or shadowed areas under trees)

Obviously it may be an initial shock and take a little adjusting to but I doubt that you'll experience any major difficulties tbh.

Admittedly that includes a Canham MQC 5x7, which no I won't be buying…..Or at least I don't think I will :runaway::LOL::LOL:

Where's that for sale?

Very kind of you, Sir :) I'd be very interested in both! I won't hold my breath though :D

Aye, I used essentially the 90mm lens you just sold before buying my current 90mm f/4.5. Got on with it ok, but it was a touch dark on my old Shen Hao. The Ebony has a fresnel GG now, so no real issues with darker lenses. My 300mm is also an F9, and my 200mm is an F8, so no stranger to 'darker' lenses.

+1

I've bought quite a few things from Japan and in all cases, the description has been spot on.

This includes 3 x Fujinon LF lenses (75mm SWD, 135mm CM-W, 250mm CM-W), a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 35mm lens, and numerous pre-owned fountain pens ranging from £30-£200.
