1000D to 50D .. worth the upgrade?

Just look at the dp review tables.

Ive used a few bodies over the years and personally went 400d to 50d and it's definitely worth the upgrade.

It's an entirely different feel altogether, and the improved high iso is worth it alone.

before I bought a 5dii, I was going to buy a second 50D and it is worth getting one if you are serious about your photography and at the time most bodies were selling for £450 and that was with low shutter counts. A couple that came up were under a 1000 clicks.
so if you offer a fair price most will sell in the end, one or two do try for more but its your call.

What extra are you looking for?

If its fps and larger (heavier) metal body then yes its probably worth it. For higher mp count and low light/high iso capability then reckon the 550D or 600D would be a better buy

50D is ok, but think its generally accepted that the 18mp sensor on the cameras I mentioned along with the 60D and 7D has the edge in all areas

I might get shot down here, but I do believe your 18-50mm lens will not give you any better results on the new body than your existing one. I have a 40D which is 10mp and the basic lenses work fine. However I have a friend who upgraded to a 50D and he had worse results than I did using the same lenses. For example, I have a an 18-200mm IS which was brought out as a kit lens for the 50D. It really doesn't give good results on that, but it does work well on a 10mp camera.

So what I'm trying to say is that don't expect to get better results unless you upgrade your lens. The 50D is agreat camera, but it also needs a good lens to get the results.

Would personally save a few more quid and buy the 60d, never convinced the 15mp sensor was that great and Canon didn't persevere with it long either.

Many people including myself carried on using the 40D thinking the 50D was'nt much of an upgrade, in fact some thought the newer model was worse for noise.

Well I loved my 50D and only upgraded because I became addicted to the even more robust 1-series cameras.

Disagree with the last comment, and I know I've said this before but the 50d noise above 800 iso is streets ahead of the 40d, and I say that from experience.

But that said, I use high iso's a lot.

Have to agree with Jim, there is nothing shabby about the 50D.
The 15mp does it's job just fine, you get fast fps and a nice mag alloy body.
As for noise, I have successfully taken shots with it at ISO 1600 with little need for NR.
The key thing with the 50D is nailing the exposure, more often than not exposing to the right slightly alleviates any noise issues.

i have the 50D and the tamron 17-50 f2.8 non VC.. Good combo.. and like stupar said, expose slightly to the right and it does wonders..

in blunt terms......

yes

i went 400d to 50d and i do not regret it, much better camera in feel and picture quality. How ever if you have a speedlite for you 1000d which isn't canon you may find it wont work on the 50d.... which i found to my cost and had to get a 430ex
