So I was thinking, where do you think cameras will be in 10 years? Will we all have full frame 20mp cameras? Will the average compact be able to produce a billboard sized print? Will cameras have HDR like abilities giving the user full control over the tonal range of the scene? Noise could be a thing of the past with everyone shooting at ISO6400. Wireless print button? ;)

The features that can be put into cameras in 10 years time could be endless. You mentioned HDR In camera. Things like per pixel ISO settings could come around, negating the use of ND Grad filters perhaps...

There is only so far a camera can go in its ability to capture light, I very much doubt a compact will be able to produce a billboard sized image due to the optical diffraction limit of the quantum wells on the CCD / CMOS. If they make them too small the light will not even enter them... (cue argument about philosophical quantum mechanics :D)

There are so many things that can be put into a camera, but remember that there are fundamental problems with electronics that render some photographic issue unsolvable. :)

I'd expect the noise issues to be pretty well sorted in that period, but I'd just be happy with a completely noiseless shutter. I read somewhere about liquid crystal shutters being under development, but they just couldn't get the liquid crystal opaque enough for the purpose.

In ten years time though, who knows, we'll probably see huge changes just as radical as the digital sensor.

I imagine compacts will be completely touch screen by then. Some are now, but by then we'll have the entire back of the camera as a huge display panel. I dunno if I'd like a completely noiseless shutter on my DSLR. Maybe on a compact size like a Leica or a Canon G7 so I can do more candid photography with ease. I do love the shutter sound. Its like the sound of satisfaction, of knowing you got that shot.

LOL. I know what you mean. When I was doing a lot of clay shooting we used to speculate if we'd still want to shoot if the gun didn't go 'Bang!' :D

I can understand why CT would want it though - not so likely to frighten his little feathered critters off!

I'm with Pete - I like the shutter sound - something very satisfying about it. I'm guessing that the time when - like with compacts already - you can choose whether or not to have a sound and indeed what sound you have, isn't far off. Obviously a littler trickier with an SLR than a digi compact though. When I first got my Samsung S600 it bleeped when it took a shot - ugh!

We both know how loud the shutters are on Canon series 1's - I have an air rifle which is quieter, honest!!

I think we'll lose the whole ISO thing , after all it's a throw back to physical film chemistry. You'll just select aperture/speed & the camera will adjust the sensitivity of the sensor to give the best dynamic range .

I think in 10 years time advanced features could include a sensor tweak to emulate gradulated effects proably programable by the lcd of where you would like to position the grad and the retake the shot (if live preview doesnt exsist)

will it make tea and cut out the expensive caf'e :naughty:

We won't need cameras in 10 years time. You just plug in your brain and d/l the images. :D Photoshop will have to close shop.

So, getting the thread back on topic, I would like to see smooth/clean high ISO, maybe one day see a histogram in the view finder as you prep the shot ?

Thats a start.

thats really the next step controling high iso's better. Can't really think of anything relating to the image that people would want more ?

We'll all have gone green and started drawing with charcoal :( From renewable sources obviously

Don't know where Camera's are going in 10yrs ,but I think I'll be out of here.My Son will have a picture on the wall saying, thanks Dad for the Camera you left me.

There was a thread on here some time ago about a technology being developed that allowed you to change the focal point after the picture was taken, that would be pretty cool.

1-1000mm kit lenses that will fit in your pocket
