10 x 8 recommended pixel count

Dpi isnt really missleading, it means the dots put down by the printer and 2880 isnt a silly figure it means thats how many dots are printed at that setting.

Actually it's not
Printers with more than 1 ink generally lay down a number of droplets of ink to each dot of print. Each dot can on (somethig like an Epson R3000/R3880) use 8 different inks to create just one dot of the right colour. That is whyt the figures that manufacturers discuss are wholly inaccurate when discussing dpi. The effective maximum resolution of the R3000 is not the reported 5760 x 1440 - it's more like 720 x 180. And normally we would use best photo setting whicj is 360x180.

So the numbers whilst perhaps accurate in that the printer does lay down 2880x1440 droplets is not dots per inch which is many times less.
