Hi
I would like to try long exposures with a 10 stop filter, on a budget to see if I like it. The lens I have is sony e mount 16-50, 40.5mm thread.
What would you recommend?

Thanks

Would imagine quite a few will recommend SRB, which are pretty good and great value.

Recently I wanted a 10 stop for my little walkabout kit (Sony A6000 with Sigma primes) and ordered this:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dorr-40-5m...UTF8&qid=1471424414&sr=1-1&keywords=dorr+40.5
(link is the 40.5mm, I ordered the 46mm)

It's surprisingly good with very little colour cast. I personally found it better than a SRB I've used in the past.

I have a few Haida I think they're called. Absolutely terrific !!!

A few years ago everyone on a budget (including me) was getting into long exposure photography by using the glass from welding goggles. They are available on ebay for a pittance. However attaching them to the lens was a bit Heath Robinson (blutack?) and they do tend to have a colour cast which was a pain to remove; converting to b&w was then an easy option.

So if it's just a taster have a go with one of those. You can't really go wrong.

I'd also suggest a bit of welding glass if you are on a budget. Then if the effect appeals to you, upgrade to something better. The welding glass can be sourced very cheaply and I'm sure there are ideas on attaching that could be found via a quick search of Google.
