10.5 hours in the hide - 29TH JUNE ANOTHER BUZZARD ADDED

Spotted this one on the ground today, unfortunately Briony(couldnt see it-tree in the way), annoying really as it was closer to her than to me.

Now all we have to do is to get them to land closer and stop the flaming kites from

BUZZING THEM:D

Good day today got what i think is my best ever Red Kite shot:D

Chainsaw is in the boot for tomorrow  :D

God dam tree, there is someone up there that does not want me to get these photos as tonight I was absolutely surrounded by the things as I was out combining but as soon as the camera was at them whooooooosh they are gone.

Oh well lumberjacking here I come

Nice one Brian, it's not fair    !!!!!!!!!!

I did get a shot tonight though of a buzzard sitting on a bale but it is miles away and not worth posting.

MY TIME WILL COME AND I WILL BE REWARDED !!!!

:D I never knew until today that magpies had blue in them, to me they were just irritating black and white noisy gits, well this one was noisy with its mates:)

Lots about this morning and very noisy too so were the Jays but did not see a thing, oh took a shot of a Spotted woodpecker on the feeder that is up down there but not downloaded it yet to see what it was like/:thinking:

Brian has had a premonition he thinks that at 10 o clock tomorrow morning a buzzard is going to land and eat the rabbit, in the meant time he is going to have a cup of coffee, adjust his F numbers and take more shots before another one arrives.

Duuuuuuuuuck flying pigs going over

I have just p****d myself laughing and will kill him if this happens as I am working

rabbit? what rabbit? :D :D

that just might not be there tomorrow

That will teach you to laugh at my kettle ............

Well I wonder if Brian's premonition came true

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm  I don't think so we will find out later so watch this space - me I have been at work all day and again tomorrow so a not goer for me this week end :shake:

STOP PRESS

I have permission to put up a permanent hide in the field at the house. Yaaaayyy

Watch this space folks

Load of rubbish:D Did get a first though, never been so close to one of these:

Brain, that would make good Buzzard fodder  :naughty:

Right had a busy weekend at work and today decided on a different approach.

I am currently awaiting a delivey fo a new HIDE, which will go down the field where my portable hide currently is.

The new hide will be going down there for the winter and then that will give some warmth and protection form the elements and it is lovely and quiet so can sit and wait, for this elusive buzzard. Can't wait for the hard frosts and the snow where the food source wil be scarce also.

I am then going to move the portable hide up to my grass field under the trees where the kites and buzzards nest and have had a straw hide up there for a while so the birds are quite used to that now and then a second un-obtrusive hide will be placed next to it both covered with camo nets so that we have 2 sites we can choose from where to sit, 2 here up the grass field and 2 down the stubble soon to be planted fields.

Feed will be put out daily and easier to shoot rabbits in the field as grass so loads of little bunnies :naughty:

Meanwhile have been busy collecting road kill etc and out with the air rifle when time permits.

The buzzards have bee seen daily sitting on the posts around the field so hopefully this will be a nice attraction for them and then the fun begins of which hide to choose

So watch this space folks.

What Briony has forgot to mention is that any shots in the home field will have a lovely green "bokeh":D:D

A good day yesterday, had only been in hide for half hour(ish) when this one landed. It was 17 yards away, Briony and i have decided to get them closer, the first step has been to put offerings out at 10 yards, then as time goes on move it closer, hopefully into 70-200 F2.8 range:D, This bird looks quite benign in this shot, a bit different to when it was tucking into its late lunch-a squirrel:

Today was a busy day in the hides.

We put up a new hide yesterday and as time was ticking on we left it "undressed" ready to do today.

We went down at lunchtime, to camo the new hide and to our amazement there was NO bait left at all the greedy little devils had devoured the lot, so may have been the buzzard - we will never know, and it shows that we needn't have had to dress the hide, as it was o.k. as it was but we have done, so our vigil goes on and the birds are getting braver by the day.

Also, we have put up the other hides in my field named "House field " and have placed a nice curved log out in the field for things to perch upon, and yes it works already, I had a wander up the field with the air rifle to try and get some rabbits for bait, and as usual camera was in the house, and what was sat on the log - Yes a buzzard, so watch this space, but I think it is playing a merry little game with us

In the mean time I hope you enjoy our offerings, and we are not boring you with our crusades !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well today had a couple of hours in the hide this morning - a beautiful morning it was also but alas nothing much was around. I had to leave at 9 am as I had cakes for 80 to cook, so left Brian in his hide, and I think he will show you the results later :bang: :bang: :D

Have you thought of shooting one of the maggies? a fresh kill might bring them down fast?

I don't like to admit but they are caught in the Larson traps also :D

I don`t like Larson traps, cruel and unnecessary,IMO.

As Briony suggested here i am. We were discussing how nice the backs of these Kites can be so here we go:

We have them landing at 30 feet away, so i personally have been able to dispense with the 1.4 converter and am going to try with the 300mm F4, in the next few days

As Nicki didnt get any shots today and i know she is going to do her best to outdo me tomorrow:

Absolutely loving it Stu, go to get them into 70-200 2.8 range, i think Nicki thinks it cant be done, just got to learn not to breathe, blink, move then make like a flaming Ninja:D

nice shot that Brian - looks like you two are having a whale of a time

Very much so Yvonne, i am so pleased that Nicki allows me to join in the buzzard hunt, and thanks for your comment:)

   Only way I can do that is to get the Buzzard, just been for a drive round the field to see what there is around at night, not much really just a couple of Tawny owls, was hoping to see the badgers but nothing there so I think they are all waiting for me in the morning :D
Lovely shots, now there is one to be framed there, told you good things come to those who wait

My ambition is to get them with the 70 - 200 next

I thought it was me that told you about patience:D:D

I have patience but no money since I started this   first a Bivvy, then a chair I may as well take up Carp fishing next, and NO I AM NOT BUYING A NIKON, :nono: SO FORGET THAT ONE.

Now where is that Buzzard tomorrrow morning

What do you not understand Nicki?

They are cruel and are unnecessary!

Do you think having a captive "bait" bird in a trap for hours is acceptable?

The gamekeepers around here use them, I personally do not, I prefer to shoot as it is quicker and kinder, but I am NOT a gamekeeper, just a farmer!

I just get rabbits, squirrels and pigeons as that is all I want, never thought of using maggies as bait, (mind you we have enough of them around here)

I am not getting into an arguement about this. End of.

So what are you smiling for here?

You either agree with them or not. Going by the smiley above, I assume you do?

Up early tomorrow to see what the day brings hopefully a Buzzard but a nice day with nice weather would be a start, even a fox would be a bonus, I am suprised we don't see them.

You wont see them if you are asleep:D

Huh you can talk, :D

Shhhhhhhhh not meant to tell anyone that, so glad I went for the bivvy instead of the hide, proves it is comfortable, and cheaper and much more room.

Silence is condemnation then?

Pop up realtree hides (blinds in America) can be picked up for around $40-$70 from Cabela's stateside, and they ship to the UK.

I bought an Ameristep one a few years ago, cracking piece of kit, big enough for me, the dog, kit, food and a couple of brunette's:D, the really nice touch was the built in scent block lining, cost me £40 delivered to the UK and was here within a week!!

Considering the ridiculous prices here (same thing was being sold for around £100) its worth looking over the water.

Larson traps, no problem as long as water is provided and they are checked at least twice a day, sadly those who misuse them get everyone who uses them a bad name.

Thanks for that Ian, will have a look at these as they charge silly money over here and I have relatives in the states also. Have you the link for them please. I need something a bit bigger that a "square" that I can hardly swing a cat around in :)

I agree with the Larson trap comment, I know for a fact that the ones near us get checked 3 times a day and always water in them, so no problem, got to protect the pheasant chicks etc, what goes around comes around

Yep, it is the people that don't check them or only check them once a day that are at fault.

I am not picking an arguement with anyone here not worth it.:shake:

You've got some stunning photos from that hide of yours - good work.

Any chance of a couple of the hide itself? Interested to see how you are setup as it's something I fancy trying myself.
