10.5 hours in the hide - 29TH JUNE ANOTHER BUZZARD ADDED

As far as I know it is only illegal to disturb them at or near the nest......

Correct the bill or law has NOT been passed to say it is illegal to feed them.

Been doing my homework :rules:

probably my crap photography everything seems to be going wrong at the mo Bokeh what the heck is that  blurring to the background I imagine I have not got a clue as to how to fix it.

I have just been looking at this. If the line you refer to is sort of just above the birds head, i wonder if the impression of a line is given by the fact the corn stubble has varying depths/troughs. If not that line, then i cant see any:D

yeah.. i thought it was present on the other shots too initially but i think its just my eyes lol

I think it is the line of where the rows of stubble are lying

Got to the hide at 5.30 a.m and was a beautiful morning, birds just starting to stir and at 6 am was visited by this person, helping themselves to what they could find,

023edited.jpg

If someone could he;p me out with the "Bokeh" in the back ground I would be grateful is it a setting on the camera or what am I doing

I had 5 visits this morning and had to be a bit picky in what I took (sorry Brian ) as I was trying to get the focus right, the just above me in the tree 3 buzzards sat making an awful din and the annoying thing was I could see them from the back of my hide but could ne get any piccys as trees were in the way :bang: but it shows that the perseverance is paying off, so they will come down at some stage I am sure of this, nice bunnies for them to eat Yummmm, then I looked up and saw 2 more buzzards at the bottom of the field in pursuit of a hare, again too far for a piccy and then out popped a fox by them followed by a roe deer,

What a lovely sight that was and coupled with the beautiful weather made it all worth while.

Work now but be back there later on.

Enjoy

Is this from a 100-400? I'm sure I've seen threads commenting on that strange bokeh from it before.....

120 - 400 but it is because of the background pretty sure of it and also I am at shortest range

Tonight about 7 p.m this juvenille decided to be brave, landed about 100 meters away, but they are coming closer and the wait will pay off.

I know it is small but all good things come to those who wait :D

Time spent in hide up to 40hrs (which is nothing compared to my usual Carp Fishing sessions:)), rewarded this morning when this chap/chapess, landed approx 30ft from mine and Brionys hides.

Never thought anything would drag me away from the lakes, but this wildlife photography thing has:D

Levels adjust, contrast increase and a sharpen..............:suspect:

that image is well worth being printed !!!

Nice one Brian, dam farmers, you would have thought that they would have removed every bit of stubble, shame about the bit that is sticking up, Tut Tut !!!!!!!!!     will have to have a word or 2;)

Worth the wait arn't they ?

One thing though, we will never get the same picture as the stubble will always be different LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now then this is what TP should be about:thumbs: Helpful crit!
I wanted to increase contrast but when i did (even by 1 click so to speak), the dark areas of the bird went much to dark, so i take it you adjusted levels first?. I did in fact sharpen, after resizing for TP, think i did 98% using unsharp mask. Will have another play in due course on another image to post in "Birds" section. Thank you. - Brian

Let me see if I can remember what I did......:naughty:

Open image, go to image-levels. slide the white (far right) into towards where the graph starts. Then adjust the midtone (middle slider) to where you think it is right.Click ok.

Go to image-brightness/contrast and adjust the contrast up to where you think it looks ok.

Ian Cook set up a sharpening action for me whilst he was here, I use that. Sometimes play the action once, sometimes twice, depends on the image..Below:

Than add a text box, with your name so there can be no silly internet based accusations.

Thank you so much, will have a good go at that when not so knackered, very early start in hide this morning:D Dont want to spam the thread but here is another that i have just had a quick go at. I lightened the image using levels, this then enabled me to increase contrast 2 notches, then used smart sharpen to 100%. Think it looks ok?, or does it need warming:shrug:

Not sure, you will know the colour of Kites better than I to be honest.

This is with the red and yellow saturation only raised.Whaddya think?

Edit.....and noise reduction on the background only to blur it a tad.

Well i like it:D Never thought of using noise reduction to blur background, shows you, never too old to learn. Thanks for your input:thumbs:

Nicki, are you using that Sigma lens wide open all the time?

Nicki, are you using that Sigma lens wide open all the time?

Oh, ! I have my thread back :gag: :(

No, I am not, in fact most of the time I have it closed right down as the Kites are so close in fact the one this morning I could not get because there was a willow tree in my view.

Considering putting on the 70 - 200 next time I am down there and trying that.

If you look the ones that are wide open is the problem in the back ground as I was experitmenting today but when you look across the field where the corn has been cut it is of various lengths and grades so surely this would give the effect it is having on the pictures.

No worries for a while as my hide is currently "floating" over the stubble

Kites and buzzards in hold for a few days I think

Thanks Nicki, certainly worth the wait! I wasnt nicking your thread you know, sort of adding to it:D

Did couple of hours this afternoon Kites were there but who forgot the clamp that goes on camera to attach it to the tripod :bang: :bang: so hand held was not the answer, so abandoned it as Kites etc could see the movement.

Always tomorrow, then working at the week end :'(

Been very quiet on the Kite front, off again tomorrow morning 5.30 to see what the day brings and to get my morning shot for the 4 shot "A day in Talk Photography Time " not looking forward to it as going to be a slight frost tonight,

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Yep today spent 10.5 hours in the hide with Fernface next to me in his hide (He joined me at lunchtime) and look what I got ......Yep, you are not seeing things, absolutely nothing, not one shot fired :bang: :bang: :bang: all we saw was a Muntjac walk along the edge of the field too far away, and laos a Kestrel hovering which did not stay very long.

Oh the joys of togging :bang:  :gag:

At least we had the comforts of hot drinks supplied by Brian and his little cooker, thanks Brian.

See what wonders tomorrow brings.

Right, decided today it was bloody cold so we now have des res !!! Up went the 2 man bivvy at lunchtime, away from the wind, nice, warm and dry.

You would not know it was there well camouflaged.

Have nice little comforts in there so we can make hot drinks etc and watch the wildlife in peace !!!!!

Only thing is that Brian will not let me decorate   and he wants to bring his tele down

Will post some piccys later if we get some, I have left Brian to do the housework  :lol: Power napping more like.

Think he might move in permanently !!!!

Right little Buzzard we are now ready for you and I am not giving up. :nono: :shake:

Some brilliant shots on this thread! I would be over the moon with something like this :D I think getting lower to the ground would give you some better bokeh and make the image more personal. Are you able to set up any perches?

It reminds me of getting up at 4:30 to drive up to High Wycombe and sit in a freezing hide all day but I would always have the biggest smile on my face afterwards :D

Looking forward to more!
