How often do you use your 10-20mm? Seems one of those nice to have but items that probably doesn't get used very much.

Given they are a fair old price I'm thinking its too much of a luxury to warranty purchase.

My 12-24mm is my most used zoom.

I think that wide lenses are great, they allow a lot of creativity.

I thought that at first, but then again its what I use to take 75% of my paid shots and seem to be using it more and more, so much so I was just speaking to the man in LCE about getting the Sigma version.

It opens up a whole new world, I now don't have to take a step back to fit something in the frame.

You'll never regret if you buy any wide angle lens. It will open a new area to explore.

The sky, clouds, ocean, water......Hmmm....everything in the world will look good if you have a wide angle.

If your interest is to capture Landscape/Nature/Architecture or even street buildings rather than capturing people then you must have one.

this is true !!! no image looks bad in wide angle !!!

It's got a permanent place in my bag, never go out without it and in towns & cities it is my standard lens.

Best thing I used it for was the Colosseum in Rome - Awesome...

Bought a 10-20mm and then sold it because I didn't seem to use it that much at all.

Then found on a good few occasions an ultra wide would have been ideal for what I wanted so ended up splashing out again, this time on a 10-22mm which I intend to keep a lot longer

I have the Sigma 4-5.6 version and now I would be lost without it.Love it for landscapes and buildings. It seems to make my photos much more dramatic.

Exactly what I did... but with a 17-40, not a 10-22, as I'd moved to full frame. It's one of those things, you buy something, use it, don't appreciate it, sell it and then think d'oh! I needed that.

Yep, got the Sigma. Love mine! :-)

It's my most used lens, followed closely by my 50mm.

My UWA was my least used lens. I bought it as I thought it would be good to be able to get a whole building for example in shot. I soon found that I didn't get the whole UWA thing, and the pics were as boring as hell. I don't think I got one keeper with it!

So, it went, with good riddance!! Don't think I'd ever go UWA again!!

This is my favourite lens, i use it looooads! I got the Sigma, and it's been well worth the money!

Look for a secondhand one, they hold their value well and if you don't like it simply sell it on. The Sigma 10-20 is a great lens, got mine mainly for interiors but good for landscapes and architecture shots too. Get one !

I love mine I use it for landscapes all the time, it's always in my bag if not on the camera. Just bought another Sigma lens on the strenth of the 10-20mm so hope that's just as good.

 I like that - seems to sum me up in every way  - Thanks

Buy it!! You won't regret it! Life in wide angle is a lot more interesting!!

i second this

Fantastic lens, I use it for landscapes and architecture. It works best in my undewater housing for the diving shots.....awsome but, I used it at my sisters wedding and it was not that good, it has it's limitations.

Use mine pretty much every time I use the camera. Couldn't live without it.

I love mine - it's the only lens I've got that I'd describe as a "fun" lens

If I'm wandering around towns/cities then it's the lens I'll have on. For example, this is a shot I took in the Piece Hall in Halifax before I bought the WA lens I'd have walked right past that set of stairs, without a second glance and not even thought of it as a possible shot.

The lens opens up your mind to so many different ways of looking at things I think. I've got a lot of ideas pencilled in for winter once the models go into hibernation :)

Buy one, you wont regret it

Thats a cracking shot that.... No doubt that will sell a few 10-20's now

I don't have one, but want one desperatly. However still can't decide which one to buy.

Search for pics for the main ones on Flickr, might give you an indication of what YOU like in an miage, that's how I decided.

I've got one and totally agree but I like knowing it's there in the bag just in case.

Have a look on pixel-peeper that will give you some idea on them or any lens ..... Just input the lens & camera etc

I love my 10-20, When I went to Corfu on holiday last year it's the only lens I used to capture the tiny street around the Corfu town.

I use it for all my star trail pictures & other night time shots, would hate to be without it!!

There used to be a "Show us your 10-20 shots" thread some great images in there... Personally I dont use mine enough but thats because im lazy!

It entirely depends on what you're shooting and where. There are times that mine (17-40 on full frame) doesn't see the light of day, but other times when it's the only lens I need. For example, it doesn't get taken or used on birding trips, but it's invaluable for car club meets (often limited space means you can't get far back from the cars or if there's a club line-up you need UWA to get everyone in). It's also useful for faux-shift, by shooting a building with the horizon at the centre of the frame, then crop away the lower half leaving your building with correct perspective.

So it entirely depends on your shooting style and subject matter. If you need it get it and it's justified. If you don't then it is indeed an unjustified luxury paperweight.

Hadley, can i just add that i've had the canon for a week and now own the sigma 10-20. They're virtually identical - the sigma is better built, the canon has slightly better contrast and they're both very sharp lenses. They both have USM/HSM motors. so if you're worried about the price DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE, go for the sigma. its every bit as good as the canon ;)
