Hi Guys.

I want to get a Sigma 10-20 lens and wondering is the £80 pound's more for the f3.5 worth it and how do they compare to the Tamron 10-20..

Any views please. I did look for a thread but no luck.

Cheers

The Tamron is 10-24 which gives you a bit more flexibility. I used to have the Tamron when I had my Nikon kit. It was very good optically (if not brilliant) but on the D40 it was a total pain to focus while on the D7000 it was much better. It will probably be ok on your 60D.

I now have the Sigma (not the 3.5 one) for my Pentax. Focus is ok but I am not extremely happy with the IQ, lacks a bit of bite I think.

I'd try out other ones as well like the 11-16 from Tokina, the 10-22 from Canon and the 8-16 Sigma.

By far the best ultra wide in terms of IQ and AF speed I have had was the Nikon 12-24 but those 2mm on the wide end make a huge difference.

HI..
I will have a look at the others you have suggested and have a read up..

Cheers for the info..

Just tried the Sigma 10-20 and I like it, so which one of the Tokina 11-16 or the Sigma 8-16 would be closer picture wise..( in wide terms..) to the Siggy or would they be the same.

I've had both versions of the Sigma 10-20mm, and the f3.5 version is better in every way, apart from the price tag.....I've also had a Tamron 11-18mm and it was okay for the money but I wouldn't have another one!!

I have a Tokina 12-24 on my 40d and love it. Well loved it until the motor developed a fault. I need to send it off for repair.

I bought it second hand off here and took it round Oz a couple of months ago and it was my most used lens. It's a constant f4 so pretty good in lower light situations too.

Thanks guys for the replies and I have just got myself a Sigma 10-20..

I just got the sigma f4 recently, great lens, you won't be disappointed. I just had it out for its first proper runlast night, just what I wanted. Went for the F4 as I was mainly using for landscape and long exposure so the extra for the 3.5 wouldn't make much difference to me.

3.5 or 4 (and why)? I've got the f4-5.6 version (but iirc, the price difference was a lot more than £80 when I got mine).

I did get three lens which I got from Gibralta yesterday..

1/ Sigma 10-20 4.
2/ Sigma 28mm f1.4
3/ Canon 15-85..

These cost me £1090 which is loads cheaper than the UK.. the reason I got the Sigma 10-20 4 was that most people thought the 4 was a better deal. only time will tell.

Cheers.

Any chance of some links to the shops/product pages with the costs. Im looking to buy the sigma 10-20. Also looking for best prices for a samyang fish eye and a nifty fifty ( whatever that is lol. Sounds like it will be £50 )

Thanks for your time.

The 10-20 is a stunning lens, if I had enough money I would buy one straight away! Luckily while I'm still at college I can borrow theirs although it's a Nikon mount so I have to borrow a camera as well.

I have the 10-20 also but I haven't used it for ages now and for someone who loves wide this is an issue soon to be resolved with my long awaited upgrade. I was never really happy with the IQ either. The Tokina 11-16 though is so much cleaner imagewise.

Alas the guy that owns four of the six shops that sell the cameras on Gibralta is a private person, not a main line store, so not unless you are going there it wont be of any help...I'm sorry too say.
Postage of course kills alot of the prices.
Cannot help much I'm affraid.

Keep an eye open in the ads on here, if not look at Camera Price Buster they do a compare site which is good.

Cheers.

I took some photos today with my new 10-20 and I will post one later..
