hey peeps,

just edited a photos,
shot from raw converted to .tiff resized to 90cm-60cm at 300 dpi for large print. and its resaved at 1.42GB, does this sound about right?

when it goes off to the printers will they be able to deal with it?

Is it 16 bit by any chance? What camera is it off originally?
 
That's ~72Million pixels. Assuming 2 bytes per channel at 16 bit, that's a filesize of ~430Mbytes. Something is wrong, just from that.

Are you saving layers?

Printing won't resolve 16 bits/channel - 8 bits will do. JPEG would be even smaller in filesize.
 
Was taken with a d300 so only 10.1mp , saved it as 8bit tiff. Which was then 34mb . Then opened it in photoshop , resized , sharpened , resaved then came out at 1.4gb
 
Did you by chance select dots per centimeter instead of per inch when you set the resolution?
 
just double checked, and it was definatly saved, 8bit from raw 240ppi, then saved at 300ppi as tiff.. after enlarging and sharpening.

i dont have an issue with the file being so large, i just hope the printers wont!

maybe i should contact them to check.
 
Something wrong here, a tiff, cmyk @ 300dpi 90x60cm with no layers, masks or selections saved with it should be 288MB.

Just checked this with an image we are about to put on press at work.

Is it 90x60 inches by chance?, that knocks it to over a Gb ( done it myself on more than one occasion) :)

When you consider that I've had similar sized perfect prints from 10mb files, then I think 1.4gb is a bit on the fat side.
 
they are 18000x27000 in dimension.

i too have had similer experiances with smaller jpegs, i had a panoramic with 4 photos stitched together totalling around 50mb for a 5 foot wide banner and that was fine too.

but with this one im covering all angles. supplying an uncomressed tiff a high res jpeg (30 odd mb) and a lower res for easy viewing..

In which case you are at 300 ppcm not ppi ;)
 
HeHe... done that too, and spent ages arguing with Photoshop.
