Would a 1.4 tc for my 5D4 and sigma 150 to 600 contemporary work OK?
If do I need a canon or sigma tc?

yes the sigma one is good on that combo but you do lose a stop or so of light i.e f8 or f9 at full zoom
 
Isn't the TC for the 150-600 specific for the model? I am sure I recollect that the older 1.4x Sigma converters are not compatible with the newer 'Global' lenses.

The TC-1401 is the model you want.
 
I'm tempted by the 1401 for my 150-600. They are pretty cheap now (all things considered) for a good, used one. Probably best going for the newer model as well as same brand.
 
Just seeing this,bu&&er I have ordered the EX APO DG from mpb,they even confirmed it would be OK. Its due delivered this afternoon so will see. If not its going back and get the 1401.

Perhaps MPB need to read this info about the lens and it's compatible TC's

Teleconverters that are newly designed to match the new lens line-ups can be attached. The addition of SIGMA’s TELECONVERTER TC-1401 or TELECONVERTER TC-2001 produces a MF 210-840mm F7-9 hyper-telephoto zoom lens or a MF 300-1200mm F10-12.6 hyper-telephoto zoom lens respectively. In addition, when SIGMA TELECONVERTER TC-1401 is attached to cameras that are compatible with AF at F8, it is possible to shoot with AF.

When I purchased mine I checked for compatibility with 150-600 C lens and it only listed the newer 1401 matched TC

It works OK , however at full reach and f9 it is slower to focus and a bit soft IMHO

PS Defo worth investing in the USB dock for customising settings, with TC lens has and annoying habit of hunting so customising focus range was very helpful

I wouldn't bother... that lens is already unable to resolve to the level of the 5D4 sensor; adding a TC is only going to make that worse. You're just as well off cropping.

I have arranged a return and ordered the 1401, very helpful lady called Jess helped me out from start to finish. well happy with the service, I have bought from them in the past with no issues too.
