1/2 Second Shutter Speed on Nikon D200? errrm How?

Hi all...

Hope you can help :)

Anyway looking to experiment with long exposures but can't seem to work out what 0.5seconds is? or 1/2sec is on The Nikon D200? I assume 1" is one second? 1"3 is 1.3 seconds? Where is 0.5 seconds?

Is there a setting I need to adjust to make it go up in steps of 1/2? As surely it has the ability to expose at 0.5?

It's going to be one of the fractions

Set your camera to exposure control (TV on canon). then use the wheel to change through your exposure time, it's go into like;

1/8th, 1/25th, 1/250th, 1/8000th

Etc..

Obviously this didn't help, but you want to be finding 1/2 which is half a second exposure. It's too early ;(

Strangely enough I believe a half second exposure is just the plain 2 in the viewfinder/on the screen Kinobe ... :shrug:

If you think logically the setting at 500 = 1/500th ... therefore the setting of 2 = 1/2 ... :thinking:

You are correct when you say 1" = 1 second ... but 2" = 2 seconds not the plain 2 mark ... ;)

Thanks for the responses n help so far....

So if I set it to 2 and not 2" that should equal my 0.5?

Its just baffling me because the logical step should reallb be 1/2" 1" 1.3" 1.5" but its only starts from 1"!

That's correct Ed ... 2 is equal t 1/2 second imb ... :D

It is logical really ... it is the single " mark that denotes the move into full and full plus fractional second settings.

In the other direction the absence of the single " indicates the move into fractions of a second i.e. think of it as adding the fraction signifier ... 1/?? etc., ... :shrug:

If you worked like that though, all the setting would be things like 1/800" etc.

800 400 200 100 50 25 10 5 2 1" 2" ...etc. does make sense when you think about it.
 
Does it help if I say that 1/2 second is 500mS? :shrug:

2 is indeed 1/2 second...... excluding the " which indicate full seconds (and decimalised fractions thereof eg 1.5 ) the whole number is the common denominator of the fraction .... ie 1/2, 1/50, 1/1000.....


Strange thing is.... it's all in the manual. ;)
 
I think you've got is sussed already but just in case

The " is to tell you it's 1sec or longer, otherwise, Nikon assumes you'll know that whatever the number is it's 1/ before it i.e. a fraction of a second

My D2xs top-plate is pretty much the same as yours, so you want just the number 2 showing for 1/2 second.

500 is then 1/500th of a second
