It does not seem 5 minutes since Smooth introduced me to the TP forums, so as I hit my 1,000th post I thought maybe it should be a little reflective.
Since joining a little over three years ago, I can say my photography has improved in that I am trying new and different things most of which have been inspired, encouraged, or both, by these forums. The bits that stand out for me are:
Entering the competitions has been rewarding in the sense of thinking about shoots that I may have never considered before (I am immediately taken back to trying to get a drawing pin to spin on a sheet of glass!) and although I have never completed a 52 or a 365, they are the personal Everests I want to climb.
The replies from other members who take time out to look at and critique my work, to offer opinions and directions on where I can improve, have been interesting and engaging - much more beneficial than a FB like, or a Flickr nice shot!
The standard of work, the variety of talent and the pages of advice and information.
The familiar names who engage in conversation, most of whom I will never meet but I have a picture of who you are and what you do, and I enjoy looking at your work.
I never quite understood the appeal of forums; I have tried many but this is the only one I have stuck with. It is a good place to be.
So my 1,000th post is a thank you to those of you behind the scenes and to the wider TP community; I like it here, I like dropping in and seeing the variety of images, reading the discussions, and joining in here and there.
Cheers
