It does not seem 5 minutes since Smooth introduced me to the TP forums, so as I hit my 1,000th post I thought maybe it should be a little reflective.

Since joining a little over three years ago, I can say my photography has improved in that I am trying new and different things most of which have been inspired, encouraged, or both, by these forums. The bits that stand out for me are:

Entering the competitions has been rewarding in the sense of thinking about shoots that I may have never considered before (I am immediately taken back to trying to get a drawing pin to spin on a sheet of glass!) and although I have never completed a 52 or a 365, they are the personal Everests I want to climb.

The replies from other members who take time out to look at and critique my work, to offer opinions and directions on where I can improve, have been interesting and engaging - much more beneficial than a FB like, or a Flickr nice shot!

The standard of work, the variety of talent and the pages of advice and information.

The familiar names who engage in conversation, most of whom I will never meet but I have a picture of who you are and what you do, and I enjoy looking at your work.

I never quite understood the appeal of forums; I have tried many but this is the only one I have stuck with. It is a good place to be.

So my 1,000th post is a thank you to those of you behind the scenes and to the wider TP community; I like it here, I like dropping in and seeing the variety of images, reading the discussions, and joining in here and there.

Cheers

Totally agree Simon.

I've learnt loads from this forum, and by actively trying to join in more and think about what I'm doing and why has had a positive impact on my photography.

So thanks to everyone who has helped me and who gives their time and energy to the website. It's much appreciated.

Here's to the next 1,000 posts :)

Great post Simon and I would think your feelings are echoed by the vast majority of members.

I have been a member here for very nearly 2 years and have been totally blown away by the quality of some of the images submitted. I have also learnt a huge amount by reading posts.

Like all large member based forums, there have been times where I have felt quite intimidated by members but on the whole TP is a great place to be a member of. It is also somewhere that I visit at least once a day.

We are very lucky to have a number of very active and fair moderators who have managed to put out a few fires during my time here so a big pat on the back to those men and women, I will even hand you some Jaffa Cakes as my way of saying thanks!

Excellent posting! I've been here 18 months and since then my photography has improved significantly enough that I now display shots on my walls at home. The whole hobby now gives me vastly more pleasure than it ever had before in nearly 30 years!

There is a downside though, since coming here I estimate my expenditure on kit is somewhere north of £4,000 :( The Govt. will be regulating TP soon due to splash headlines like "Photography forum causes people to steal food just to survive" ;)

Nice one, and not just for getting to 1,000 but also for really showing what TP is now and hopefully what it will remain, I'm forever extolling the virtues of this great forum, its wonderful to honestly be able to say that the vast majority of the membership are fantastic...

I know that I've learnt so much from being a member of TP my photography has improved no end and I'm still learning each and every time I log in

The forum is what it is thanks to the great membership but also because of how well it is run by the green team :) so thanks must really go to both

Hi Simon, Congrats on the 1000 posts keep up the good work.

I'm virtually a new boy to this forum compared to you and quite a few others. I guess I've spent too much time on another site that is nowhere near as good and as friendly and constructive as this one.

Even for someone who's been kicking around the pro tog scene for quite a bit longer than digital, It's surprising just how much useful information/tips etc that you can get from this forum. And hopefully in return be able to help others to improve their photography as well.
