I need a new 0% card for a balance transfer- what's good at the moment?

Amex are offering 0% plus cashback on new purchases for 3 months.

Vrgin are running offers, and I just got an offer through on my Barclaycard (i.e., I've got one which I pay the balance in full on each month, so not sure if it applies to new customers) that ran 0% until May 2010.

Just watch out for the handling fee's, still loads cheaper than paying interest but 3% of a chunk of money can leave an unpleasant aftertaste.

As an aside, for the well disciplined of you, Virgin (which used to be MBNA) offer a nice feature. If they offer you £10k worth of credit, 0% for 12 months, they will actually let you take the full amount as a 'cash' payment straight into your bank account, rather than most other cards that will oly make a payment to settle another balance elsewhere. A few times I've taken it in recent years, and either stuck it in a selection of high interest accounts (admittedly not very realistic at the moment), and a friend regular does it and puts the money into Premium Bonds. You get the money back risk free at the end, and he's never failed to make it pay for itself in winnings.

But you do need the self control not to splash the cash in the meantime!

John Lewis Partnership card offering 0% for 6 months on purchases and balance transfers, I think the fee for transfers is either 2 or 2.5%,

Tesco's were offering 9 months interest free on balance transfers recently!

ditto on virgin they seem to have the longest term. My current one was for 15 months

cant use (a) virgin as they are MBNA (current card) i paid of a barclay card too recently to reuse them. The card needs to be 12 months as i need it long enough to clear it.

a word of advice you need to watch MBNA as they try very hard to make it hard to repay the cards. They will only take a DD for the minimum payment amount.

I've never had that put upon me, I've been an MBNA customer several times, and I'm currently finishing the last of an outstanding 0% balance that finishes in August (on a Virgin branded card).

You can always set up a standing order with you online banking to the specified details each credit card gives for bill payments. That is how I got around this as halifax only allow DD for minimum payment or full balance.

this is what i had to do - but when i signed up (for the BT card)they were happy to have a DD for a large fixed amount (which is what i wanted) then they changed the rules :bat:
