Might be a bit of a daft question but here goes :D

I’ve just picked up two ‘80’s - ‘90’s compacts, a Canon Sureshot Supreme and a Pentax Zoom 90. Daft question but did these have foam light seals in them?

Both have had nothing done to them as picked up in a bargain bin, but the rear film doors and gulleys around both are totally clear - no mushy residue in either at all.

Just wondering if I need to invest in light seal foam or just use as is.

Thanks.

I have a Pentax Zoom 90 that I've owned from new.

Definitely no seals ever. Just had a look and it's clean as a whistle.

Excellent camera BTW, but noisy.

Thanks @simon ess that's great to hear! Just seemed a bit random that both had totally clear innards!

Will need to pop some film through them both and see how they perform.

Somewhere I have an old Canon compact and I'm pretty sure it relies on an overlap or 2 as the light proofing rather than a foam seal.

No foam seals on the Sureshot Supreme, it relies on the plastic ridges and baffles to keep the light out. I think there might be a bit of foam round the film window though, so it seals to the film cassette. (y)

Bahh they've all copied the idea of Leica bodies:D

I don't know about all the M series Leicas but my M4 has no seals whatsoever so it's up there with the elite 80's - 90's compacts:LOL:

Plastic POS!!!

I don't think any German cameras ever had light seals. They relied on proper engineering.

Possibly so.
The germans have manufactured some very high quality products ( not just camera equipment) over the years, not that other countries haven't, however german made stuff ( from what i've experienced), is generally built to last and do exactly what it says on the box!
