Yes
My current kit is

Nikon D90 gripped
50mm 1.8
18-105VR
70-300VR
Sigma 10-20mm
SB600 (with stofen), and
SB400

I take mainly portraits, and the current setup works great, but also will be travelling this year, so looking for a second body, or perhaps another lens.

I can get a D60 with 18-55mm VR for around £300 with cashback, only a little cheaper for the D40, or what about another lens

85mm 1.8 possibly given the portraits I take, but probably wont be so useful abroad, and would no go in my travel kit.

What would you do?

I really like the D60, you don't really need the 18-55 VR so you could get about £80 for that, bringing the D60 down to about £220 if you sell the 18-55 VR after cashback - which is a bargain.

Its a cracking 2nd body.

The 85mm f/1.8 is a great lens, and would be a fantastic addition to your bag for portraits.

However, the D60 would also be a good move, as mentioned, sell the kit lens, and you've got a cracking 2nd body.

You've got a real dilemma, don't you ;)

Thanks for the advice. Looks like the d60. I did hear about the d40's low light capabilities but d60 seems to be the favourite here.

Any other lens recommendations?

Personally i'd get a wide angle prime for travelling.

For travel photography won't you need to pack light and therefore not require a second body? Unless you're worried about failure of the D90, which is a pretty new camera so surely a selection of cards should be adequate.

The lenses you've got to use seem to cover most aspects of travel other than a wide angle prime lens. Which won't add too much weight or size to your kit.

Ebay may not be the best for newer lenses for D60. Have been following nikon 70-300 af-s vr and prices are reaching £360+. Have just orded a new one for £345.

:cuckoo:

Thanks for the suggestion. You are right I will need to travel light, but I dont want to risk D90 failing. Having said that, I can't imagine it would.

Which particular wide angle prime would you recommend? The Sigma 10-20mm serves me well, but a prime would be faster.

Not that wide, but if you want a superb prime, get a Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 AI-S.

Stunning lens :)

(it'll be all manual on a D60 or D90)

Ahh, but if I get that, I will want to get a D300 to use the lens... and I just can't ( yet ;) )
