Yes
I now have my camera:giggle: an 18-55 lens with Hoya UV and a 64gb card...I also have a £30.00 gift card to spend at Amazon:banana:
I'd like a bag and a flash gun at some point, just not tempted by any of the bags on Amazon for thirty pounds...

So, what gadgets do you think are worth while for £30.00, reversing ring etc, or even a ring flash like this Neewer :giggle:

I was quite surprised Kev that I got two batteries with the camera, one Nikon and one and a Hahnel. If the shutter count of 204 is right, the batteries are piratically new.

The shutter count has nothing to do with the newness of the batteries ;) but in regard to the shutter count..............with Canon bodies inserting a card with a lower count then the previous one will make the body "read" that current cards last image number but no idea if Nikon does the same. The other thing with Canon (and many other bodies) is once they get to image number 10,000 they rollover creating another folder (e.g. 100 then 101) and in the new folder the image count starts again at 0001.

PS but I would be concerned about those "piratical" batteries ;)

PPS as for what to buy...............???

That makes sense. I had noticed a "Storage Folder" whilst having a play, there's three folders and the camera was set to 102. So that would mean the camera had a shutter count of 10204? ...I've tried a couple of sites, downloading a Jpeg file and both sites couldn't read it...

From memory I think it needs to be a RAW file to extract the shutter count.

GC

I did, and you posting the link made me check the camera settings. I had Jpeg set to large file, changed it to small, shutter count 298.
I've taken 94 snaps since last night:giggle:

It's worked now GC, but speaking of RAW. I was thinking of buying a second card, so when I do shoot RAW, RAW would be saved to one card, Jpeg to the other. Only used RAW a couple
times in the past on a compact digital I used for diving...

You can shoot RAW+jpg to the same card but I think most people who do shoot both formats save RAW to one and jpg to the second. I'm just shooting RAW to both, the card in Slot 2 acting as a back-up.

Appreciated GC:)

You know you can spend more than £30 if you also contribute to it ? It’s not a fixed gift card. If there’s a bag you like for £45 - you’ll just have to add your own payment of £15 (Just mentioning in case you hadn’t used an amazon gift card before)

A case to hold your memory cards can be useful when you're out and expecting to use several memory cards.
If colour balance is important you could get a grey white balance card (or plastic).
You could get some filters for different effects, eg a Neutral Density (ND) filter if you like doing long exposure photography.
A folding reflector (or set) might be useful for you as an alternative to using a flash?

OK....as I recall with Canon and my Olympus
  1. The fresh card in the a brand new camera will have a folder called 100
  2. That can take 10,000 files..................but not many cards have the capacity to hold 10,000 images
  3. So, you fill that card and insert another fresh card that will inherit the folder 100 and keep adding images up to the 10,000 folder limit
If you get to the count 10,000 (note not 10,000 actual files) on that folder, if the card has more space for further images the camera will create folder number 102 thus on that card when looked at on the PC, you will see two folders i.e. 100 and 102.
  4. Now, as I normally format in PC then format in camera at first fresh use I have no idea whether an incamera format alone removes the older folders
Why do I highlight this.....................well because I know not what exactly you are describing where talk about 3 folders (unless you are including such a lower number empty folder and the default admin type one that is also put on the card?)

So, yes if you have a folder 102 and your file number is 204, that would make the total image count (unless there has been some sort of factory reset???) 10204

I know it is hard but wait until you find that the lack of something is limiting you. If you really want a bag or a flash in the future just hang on to the gift card until you can buy what you want with a bit more money.
It is easy to buy lots of things that end up being used once or twice and then put to one side.
If you still want to spend the money then personally I would get a rocket blower and use it properly.

I'm trying to be good and not spend too much:giggle: whilst saving for a 70-300! I think at that point a bag will be a must...I was tempted by this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-VK7...00N1IO2V6/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 but then I'd still have to find £80.00.

Unfortunately there is also folder 101 which contains 9999?

 oh drat talk about making a booboo.................................if as @Haldir says the current image folder is 102 the count (as your nudge to me on my Doh! moment) would be 20,204 which if a true reflection of the 'actual' count is not that high in the scheme of things, on the surmise that the condition of the camera is "good" or better :)

This is interesting. I click on "Storage Folder" which displays 102. Then there are two options...

"Select folder by number"...
There are three boxes and you can change the number of each box. If you change the number to 102 or 103, a file symbol
appears on the left, it's blank on any other number.

"Select folder from list"
102D7000
103D700

So if the true count is 20,204 I'll be on to the buggers, as this camera was over priced based on the shutter count. I could have saved sixty five quid and bought one
from MPB with a shutter of 7500...

As I said, I have no idea where you are looking and seeing "Storage Folder..... " etc

But I repeat what I said about using a previously used card (or did I say this or not?) ~
on Canon if you don't format in PC to 'scrub' them and/or don't 'manage' your cards, if say your last card used has file 1000 on it and the one you use next, say from another camera has last file 20,000.................the camera will 'reset' its internal files to card counter to 20,000 so to the uninitiated it will look like your camera has suddenly leapt in shutter count (NB here I am not talking about the 'hidden from user' actual shutter count).

I hope that some Nikonites here at TP can clarify the above in regard to the way a Nikon body behaves.

But if it turns out the seller sold the camera @ a price based on shutter count and it is higher than declared, then yes in your shoes I would have an issue with them :(

Any number of books, of course, like this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Photobox-Essential-Collection-Images-Need/dp/0500292663

(better than that lukewarm review suggests!).

Or this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Photography-Definitive-History-Tom-Ang/dp/1409346455

Zeiss wipes are always useful:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZEISS-Lens-Wipes-Pack-200/dp/B00IKGH2TI

I'd get a genuine Giottos rocket blower (rather than a knock-off that might deposit crap on your sensor):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Giottos-GTAA1900-Rocket-Air-Blower/dp/B00017LSPI

(Micro-Tools should be a reliable third party seller).

I like the Op/Tech Pro strap:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/OP-TECH-1501012-Pro-Strap/dp/B00092KD9C

Rainsleeves can be handy:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Op-Tech-Rainsleeve-Twin-Pack/dp/B000PTFDYO

A bag from the Manfrotto NX range:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-MB-Iibu-Shoulder-DSLR/dp/B0142VID7E
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Manfrotto-NX-CSC-Messenger-Bag/dp/B075M621K7

(the smaller one is in budget)

Perhaps a grey card:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lastolite-Manfrotto-LL-LR1250-Ezybalance/dp/B0096WKCE2

Maybe a polarizer:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-Digital-Circular-Polarizing-Screw/dp/B001G7PMEK
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-Digital-Circular-Polarizing-Screw/dp/B000KL7JF8
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-52-Slim-PL-CIR-Filter/dp/B00HF6FYCG

(Hoya HD = tough, multicoated, easy clean, a bit out of budget; Pro1 = multicoated, not easy clean; standard = single coated)

Kev, this might be a bit trivial...I've had a look and take it the Rocket Blower is the one by Giottes, £14.97 on Amazon. A bit pricey for a rubber ball with a hole in it:giggle:
Anyway, one of the reviews recons there should be a triangular hole in the top, not a round one. Do you know if this correct?

The Giotto blower and a good few others are not just a "rubber ball".

They are made of silicone rubber and have a non-return valve in the base to ensure just blowing occurs at the nozzle end. Older style latex rubber based blowers are OK until they degrade internally and then they blow micro particulates out and none that I have come across have the one way valve either :(

No idea about the shape of the hole question???

A genuine Giottos has a triangular hole - just checked the one on my desk!

I have had mine about 8 years and it is as good as new. The hole in mine is triangular but I don't know if all the Giottos blowers have triangular holes or not.
The review you mention was in Canada about 2 years ago so possibly a different supplier and it may have been fake?

I had a chat with them this morning, I'm getting a refund for the difference which will be enough to buy a Tamron AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di LD Macro they have for £70.00.
Not the Nikon one I was after but then it's a lot cheaper and it'll certainly be very welcome :giggle:

As long as you are happy with the 'deal' then great.......................I look forward to hearing how you getting on and enjoying your new to you acquisitions :)

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input, it's much appreciated as always. I've ordered the Rocket blower, a lens brush x 2, and some wipes.
Our lass will be happy too as she can keep her spotting scope clean:giggle:

Sounds good, a decent bag might be your next buy but sensor dust will inevitably need removing sooner or later (if not now).
A more general purpose backpack or bag might do the job for less, you often want to carry additional stuff e.g. more clothes and there's something to be said for carrying a bag that doesn't imply camera gear inside.

Sadly I've not seen many bags within budget on Amazon, that have the cut out dividers to house the camera with lens attached. I had a Tamrac one years ago but I don't have Tamrac money
anymore...I thought for now, I'd leave the bag until the very last minute. Once I have a larger zoom lens I think it'll give me a better idea of what bag to buy. I'd like to add a flash gun at some
point but I doubt that'll take up too much space.

Camerashuttercount definately works with the D7000 and works on jpeg and RAW files. If you want to email me an image I can check for you (it can be an image of anything, even one with the lens cap on).

Appreciate the offer Chris but I eventually did it. I had the camera set to "Large Jpeg", changed it to small and the test image downloaded...
