£1200 and no lens

Ok folks just a quick update.Im back from Longleat and Alton Towers and still no lens.I have mailed them telling them that i want an update by today or i will start procedings to recover my money from them.I came in today to an email saying that they had been updating the security and this caused my order to be held. I have since mailed them that of tomorrow morning i start contacting Visa ( dont know if they will do anything as it was a Visa Debit straight out my account and not a credit card) but will try them first.I will Shame them on every forum i use to warn people not to make the same mistakes that i have.

So far i have had the following excuses from them even though there just updated web site shows the item in stock-

In stock and delivered within 3 days
Order being processed- a few days wait ( a few days and no lens )
Order being sent out that day ( was going to delay holiday when i heard this )
No lens in stock-wait for Nikon( up to 1 week wait ---still no lens )
Lens in stock and being shipped next day ( still waiting )
Order held by new security measures ( no date when it will turn up )

I thought i was buying from a UK company after finding their site only to be told on here they are Hong Kong based. I originally made the mistake with an ebay company and had my money refunded after 3 weeks and thought i should buy from the UK.It just gets that i dont know who is in the UK and who isnt, who to trust and who not to.I just wished i had bought from Kerso and waited the extra few days that it was taking him to deliver as it seems he has a good rep on here.

Anyone have any good info on what my next steps should be to recover the cash quickly and cause them as much pain as possible..:shake::eek:

Treat this as a hard lesson learned, that it's up to you the buyer to make certain you know who you are dealing with. It's really not difficult to get details of a company, in the case of simplyelectronics I found their address on the term and conditions page. http://simplyelectronics.net/terms.php but of course you have to know to look and at least you do now. If you look and cannot find a company address and phone number on a comercial site, walk away.

Re- simply electronics, have you asked them for a refund? it might be the quickest way to get your money back, if that doesn't work then visa should help, but I would never 'warn' a company I was going to go down that route, just do it.

Thanks for the heads up on who they are...their names will stick in my head for sure!

I've only ever purchased one thing from HK and that was a Sekonic L758D light meter and its replacement. Saved about 50% on the UK price and was dispatched promptly..

Mark, I hope this resolved speedily. With the benefit of hindsight, sounds like Kerso would have been the best bet.

Will watch this thread with interest fella.

Cheers, Mark

I had another mail this morning stating that they were sorry for my troubles but they will send the lens today for a 1-2 day delivery. I mailed them back stating that i wanted postage confirmation as proof and if that didnt happen then i wanted my money returned immediately.Guess what---No reply.Sent another mail telling them they were a joke and i wanted my money returned and i did not want to deal with them any more.I will keep you guys updated. Will be ordering from Kerso in the future.

good luck in getting your money back

Mark, did you factor in that time wise, HK are 8 hours ahead of us?

The web site states an English phone number and the wife spoke to an English chap. Lens was meant to be coming from a London addy.Site says they are open from 8am-4pm each day. Guy who has sent me all the crap in my mails is called Pete, so i have just thought they were based in England..

Ah ok, so the mail came from London as well then and not their suppliers..

Either way, I hope you get this sorted within the next couple of days mate, and thanks for naming them so others are made aware

Well, at last its all over and done with. The money has now been returned to my account in full and has now been sent to Kerso for him to supply me.This should bring an end to this issue as i believe Kerso to be much more dependable than the other 2 companies i have used. The only reason i didnt get from Kerso ( 2nd time ) was due to my needing/wantin the lens for my weekend away.Cant wait to get the lens and give it a try out---just hope it was worth all the wait. Thanks for everyones support and it has learnt me a valuable lesson.

its called drop shipping alot of online companys do this. They work as a reseller now a retailer and that way they dont stock the items less overheads for them. They should have it in there terms and conditions i belive.

Hope you have a good holiday.

I've bought the following off him:- Speedlite 580 EX II, Canon 300mm f2.8L IS, Canon 70-200 f2.8L IS, Canon 40D, Wimberley Sidekick and several other items and he hasn't let me down once.

The very first item (the flashgun) I had to wait 10 days for it to arrive and Ian didn't tell me about the wait before I ordered it, have had one similar situation with him re the 300mm f2.8 lens, but he told me in advance, in which case I was happy to wait for one to come over from the USA.

He's a very nice guy and his feedback on TP says it all.

PS. glad the nightmare is over for you mate :woot:

"Just when you thought it was all over", recieved a mail from Kerso today to say my lens wont be here this week. He is having problems getting the lens and may have to refund my money.I apreciate him being up front about this but it still leaves me with no lens..

Its hard to believe i have now paid for the lens 3 times and still no-one will give me the lens, turning into a complete nightmare.

Anyone know of a lens in the UK which they can physically see, touch, pick up and taste if need be just to be sure i can actually buy it if Ian confirms he cannot supply anytime soon.

I hope you do manage to source one soon, but at least Kerso was upfront and has let you know he is having a problem finding one which is nice especially after all the previous problems you have had.

Sounding more and more like my 70-200 VR saga. A quick check of Ebay shows only a few for sale on there which is unusual and neither jessops or WarehouseExpress appear to have any stock either, looks as if the 80-200 is the next lens to get held up by Nikon's woeful supply chain :(

There is an almost brand new one on ebay which is said to be in the London area which i would be interested in.Seller has a few pics of the actual lens which is promising.I have asked him to confirm a few things for me.

It comes with a 5 year garantee--do i need the original receipt of purchase to gain the 5 yr warranty?

A 5 year Warranty, if it's a Nikon one, means that it's an American lens. The warranty is a US-only one, so you'd need to ship the lens in to be repaired from a US address.....

It would just be exactly the same as buying a lens from Kerso. Nikon UK will, I think, honour the 1 year International warranty part (the rest is underwritten by another company), you could always buy a 7 year Mack warranty if you were at all worried
