    D.I.Y Beauty Dish Tutorial

Ney bother mate, it's the morning after the night before for me too today :) I can't really take any credit for the above dish, it's all my Dad's doin, he's a wizard with all things DIY. I got a real good dish from fotowalser in Germany in the end, they do a great little 45cm bobbie for...

    D.I.Y Beauty Dish Tutorial

Cheer for the links Steve. I buggered about with making this dish a fair few years ago now, before they were available for hotshoe flashes or the brackets to mount a hotshoe flash to a regular dish. It's an old thread. Walimex do a great dish for a hotshoe ;)

Lightroom 3, iPads and Air Display App

Ney bother mate ;) I was dubious primarily but it seems that all the niggles are tracking based with regards to watching video or playing games. That won't bother us for these kind needs. Well worth the few quid

Lightroom 3, iPads and Air Display App

Admittedly not useful for everyone but if your a mobile Apple and Lightroom user this app maybe of interest. As my main system, I've been comfortably running a laptop with larger external monitor for a few years now, I can be mobile for location based work and still have the option to view on a...

How should I light this folks?

I'm with Garry on this one mate, an overhead lightsource or at least just above the headline of the horses and angled downward: If you light head on, your image is most likely going to look a little flat due to lack of interesting shadow definition. If the lightsource comes from a higher...

    Elitism - why?

Very true but owning high spec gear and then trying to illustrate it's purposes or why it's better/more capable/reliable etc is often mistaken for or can generate accusations of elitism. It's happened many times on TP and other forums. Whilst winning several games of pool with a broom stick is...

    Elitism - why?

Excellently illustrated Ali although however clearly this point is communicated, it simply won't register or be accepted by everyone. To the experienced the proverb 'A pro can churn out a pulitzer with anything' although potentially inspirational = is total garbage. Human element combined with...

    Elitism - why?

Completely agree  Emphasis on misinformation though personally as most experiences I've had seem to be based on a confused or misinformed perspective. True but there are differences between the brands and this is the catalyst for the animosity IMO as there seems to be a difficulty...

    Tethered Shooting

Unfortunately not. When the camera has a USB plugged into the socket, no files go to card. :( The worst instances involve experiencing a crash or connection breakage during a file transfer. Thus, your files in mid transfer = vanish into the ether, forever lost. :'( Nikon really ought to sort...

    Tethered Shooting

Hiya mate, Isn't this back up still dependant on the transfer from camera, via USB to laptop? I.E if you experience a crash or the connection is broken, there will still be a loss of files?

    Tethered Shooting

Hi Dave, I've used a few freebie programs for Nikon tethering. Sofortbild Mountain Storm Both had some pretty nasty bugs resulting in frequent crashes. The largest issue with Nikon tethering is that you can't save a copy to CF and to hard drive simultaneously, so crashes result in the...

How hot does your iMac run?

With my previous macbook pro 15" unibody, smc fan control occasionally indicated a temp of 94°C when I was working on very large files. They do get hot. Faster units have been clocked at 100°C too...
