is it worth buying one just to protect the lens

I mainly take pictures of football games,so would you advise me to buy a filter for this if so what sort would i need for a sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 apo dg macro lens

Sorry for the daft question here but what are filters for,seen loads on ebay but don't have a clue what they do and what there for,i have a sigma 70-300 lens{i think}should i have one for that

I taken a few profile pictures today at the football to go on the club website,it says pictures can't be bigger than 4mb.Is there a program that will let me add all these images at once that are to big and get them down to 4mb in size

My epson printer as finally died,anyone recommend a new printer for me i don't print a lot now more homework for the kids and just the odd photo now and then.

anyone tell me what the right name is for one of them stick poles for my camera,taking photos off football i think my arm will start shaking after a while.I have a normal tripod but dont want to set that up each week so thought one of the sticks would be better
