I reckon regardless of lens size you still have to be as physically close as you can get to your subject plus IS or the fastest shutterspeed over and above your focal length makes for the best results if hand held shooting that is.
Sat in the comfort of a hide with your kit mounted on a tripod...
My thanks to both of you too Richard and Roy.
It seems quite alien to me to have started a hobby which puts me instantly out of my depth and I lack the safety net of the picture painting where I pretty much knew what to expect using my chosen medium and technique although I am far from an...
Thanks Chris and Andrew, much appreciated.
Its nice to get confirmation that what you are thinking is correct as I have read articles on various photographic topics where what one says seems to conflict with other articles on the same subject elsewhere.

Might seem a daft question ( don't worry there's more where this came from !)
but if you use a 1.4x extender on a lens attached to a small sensor camera such as my 7D I take it that the 1.6 crop factor still comes into play ?
As I say, may seem daft but I've noticed sometimes when reading...
Hi everyone , my thanks for your comments and sorry for delay in reply.
I used my EOS 7D together with the Tamron AF 18mm - 270mm F3.5 - 6.3
Di ll VC which I reckon was a very good buy and has certainly produced some of my better and crisper ( in my opinion of course ! ) images.
The 7D is...
Many thanks for looking LucyQ and Yardbent.
Yep you are both right in that it does need cropping which in my haste to try posting a picture I forgot and haste/excitement is also the reason I miss so many shots at the moment too!

You will have to excuse me if this doesn't work !
I am trying to put a picture into a thread for the first time and computers are definately NOT my forte.
There should be a Dragonfly image (Broad-Bodied Chaser) here if this works!
If not its back to the drawing board.

New myself too sir!
Lovely county Dorset especially Corfe and spent a lot of childhood holidays in Swanage and popped back there this summer for a couple of day trips.

Thanks shadow82 and as soon as I work out how then hope to oblige you.
As far as I can tell the easiest way to upload material is into your own gallery but correct me if I'm wrong someone please.
Unfortunately computers and I are not good bed partners as I was not born of the age where a...
Yep, they definately are fussy about their food and some specialist seeds like niger to attract finches can take a while to actually attract them so perseverance is necessary.
If you are unfortunate as I was you will find that you will soon become very proficient at photographing squirrels and...
Hi Brian

My brother had the bug before me but only went digital SLR when I got started with a 450D afterwhich he bought one too.
Since then I upgraded to the 7D earlier this year as I needed the...
