    Using Spyder 3 Pro

There's me holding the thing in place and thinking "this has got to be easier... ahhh, now my arm is going numb". It's not like I don't have monitor with tilt features either... :cuckoo:

A4 prints for 4p - is this guy completely deluded?

Usually the problem is they don't last any length of time compared to genuine inks. The prints fade a lot quicker. The other issue is clogging up the print heads, often rendering your printer useless. The plus side is that you'll likely save many time the cost of the printer before it dies...

Manfrotto 322RC2 head - allen key

Looking at mine, it is a standard sized allen key. :)

    confused - 50mm or 85mm for portraits?

Personally I try to use a 30mm Sigma (brilliant lens) for full-length and a 50mm Nikon 1.4 for head and shoulder shots on a crop camera. I say try as I find myself needing the flexibility of a zoom for our school prom shoots, where I need both full body and upper body at the same time - in that...

    Does anyone own a Nikon 50mm 1.4 and a Sigma 30mm 1.4?

I love the Sigma. I bought it for full length portraits, but I've wanted something longer for the head and shoulders this year, so bought the Nikon (G). Only done 1 shoot with the Nikon, and it's very good, but I wasn't as impressed with the how well it locked onto the eyes as the Sigma. It's...

    lens wish list.....

Sigma 10-20 only capable of 6x4 prints? Huh? I rented one from Lens for Hire last summer, used on a 2nd body (which was only a D40x) at our school's prom, and the prints were excellent at A3 size (I didn't try anything bigger, but wouldn't imagine it would stretch much higher without going a...

    Recommend me a tripod?

As has been said, don't buy twice. Save up until you can afford something decent (like the fantastic value Redsnappers mentioned several times) and if you need stability in the mean time, use a table or wall or something. You'll save £20 in the short term, but you'll spend £50 extra in the long...

    Nikon scanners

Yeah, because Microsoft write the drivers for Nikon scanners.

    Nikon Macro lens

I love my Sigma 150m f2.8, so if it's not too long, I'll suggest that.

    Portrait lens for D700

Personally, I'd get the D700, the 85mm f1.8 and then hire a couple of other primes for a week or 4 in the meantime until you know yourself what sort of lens lengths you'll want. It's pretty certain you'll get the 85mm at some point though.

    Autosport International NEC Camera

I've seen plenty of dSLRs in the past, though I haven't been for a couple of years. There's no way you'd get a tripod in there on the public days.... even if they let you through (not going to happen), it's far too busy to actually use it safely. The place is manic. Don't think there are any...

    D300 v D90

You said you were interested in portraits. The D90 hasn't got a flash sync terminal, which would be rather important if you intend to do any studio work, in which case the chances are at some point you'll be using radio triggers.

How can you tell how many clicks your camera has?

Of course file names won't include shooting tethered, though in most cases that won't add much.

    Thoughts on bright sunlight

Big diffuser thing between the sun and the subject, held by an assistant (who can also give you a hand trying to fold it again :D). Would have needed something rather large for the group shot though, and it would have been a nightmare if it was windy.
