    You say in the dark but will there be ambient lighting (street lights etc)? Do you have / have access to flash lighting? As Michael said "there are several ways to do this" many of which will be limited by the equipment you have. A little more information will help people give you advice.

    I've never had a problem with the reviews so far. Obviously I don't just blindly follow, I make my decision based on the resources provided and reading a few other reviews on top but my first stop is that site.

    It's Ken Rockwell for me. He's got a sense of humour and seems to know what he's up to. A lot of good information on there about lenses too. Interestingly one about how sharpeness is overrated.

    Or convert the image using the black and white layer tool thingy. Speaking of layers the colour version you are copying over, is it positioned above or below the layer turning your other image B&W? If it's below that's your problem.
