I would agree it's an excellent lens and was my first addition to my 350D and 18-55 kit....I never looked back, that lens changed my photography completely. Plus if you get good glass you'll want to keep it rather than buying a cheaper alternative and then within a short time wanting to upgrade...

It's a great travel tripod and use mine for travelling in Africa. I did change the head for a Manfrotto 484 ball head and have used it with both a 40D and 5D with 400 5.6. Haven't used it with the 1D III yet, but fingers crossed.

We've done a few safaris...following a 'once in a lifetime' trip to Namibia/Botswana and Zim in 2005 - warning Africa can be seriously addictive! Namibia/Botswana can be expensive if you stay at the top end lodges etc, we went for camping but it meant we could stay for 3 weeks rather than 10...

Namibia and the Okavango delta Botswana.....amazing landscapes, amazing wildlife...can't beat it!:)

100-400 vote from me too. I've used the 150-500 and found it hunted more in lower light conditions.....with wildlife you need that speed. I have a 5D mk1 and have purchased a 40D as a second body for wildlife as the 5D AF is just not up to the job, especially for tracking moving subjects such as birds in flight. I believe the mk II doesn't really have much improvement if any for the AF. The 5D is a superb FF camera, but AF is one...

At the moment it's my 400 F5.6 L, hasn't been off my camera since I bought it a month ago. It's so sharp and AF so fast. However I still love my 10-22 for landscapes.

I went for the 055, as it's so sturdy. I am 5' 3 and although it is quite heavy, it's fine to carry strapped to my mini trekker.

I love mine and wouldn't part with it, it's a great lens, although I guess some would prefer the IS.
