Sandisk are great. I've got some Extreeme III from 7dayshop.com Never had any problems and now have a couple of 8gb ones which were about £30 each.

The 450 should be fine. I used to use a 400 to photograph track days and mountian bikers. Having said that, I now have the 50D and, yes it is a lot quicker and I do get better results. Thats with the same lenses too.

I personally jumped from the 400D (although still have it as backup) to the 50D. Wouldn't really look back. The feel of the camera and the results are a good step up in all ways. THe 50D offers a lot more and meets all what you want.

Correct, it shouldn't flash. Have you just tried taking the batteries out and then replacing them a few mins later?

Think you just need a new set of batteries. It happened to my 430ex and just replacing them for a brand new set sorted it out.

Just wondering what metering setting you use for shooting birds. Quite often small in the frame are you a spot meter person, partial, centre-weighted or evaluative person?
