I use a Tokina 12-24 F4 on a D7200. If you have a look at my Flickr, most of the landscapes on there are with that lens. The Nikon 16-80 VR is also a decent standard wide angle to moderate telephoto zoom (it's my 'stay on' lens for the D7200 & D500).
These are good lenses but are not to the...
I use the 16-85VR with the D7100 as my day to day walkabout. It's a nice focal range and I don't miss the F2.8 because of the good high ISO performance. If I need the shallow depth of field then I usually have the diddy 35/1.8 on me.
If I have my D7000 SD card slots as over-flow, the max shot count remains the same whether I have just slot 1 with a card in it or have a card in slot 2 as well. E.g. 16GB SD card in slot 1, RAW quality, max shots 461. Add an 8GB card to slot 2, and max shot count still says 461 (where I would...
I have the three stop ND pro-glass and a set of ND grad hard resins (all Lee). I have found in many situations I can pull the nd grads right down to fully cover the lens with the dark part; effectively acting as a full nd filter. This is using a Tokina 12-24 UWA with 77mm filter thread and...
I have the Mark 2 version and I am very pleased with it. The 11-16 F2.8 is supposedly a tad sharper and F2.8 as opposed to F4 butif you are using the lens for landscape and stopping down to F8-F11 then what does it matter?! I really like mine and wouldn't part with it. Over the 11-16 you lose...
I use Lightroom 3 for 90% of my PP, the latest version is really top notch. For the extra 10% I use Photoshop Elements 8. That's a really good combo if you're not one to spend hours on post processing.
The Hitechs are also said to be pretty good and fall midway bewen Cokin and Lee pricing. I agree I use 2 and 3 stop ND Grads; anything less and the LR3 grad tool works well.
The base ISO for the D90 is 200, the camera just uses electronic trickery to get down to the 'pseudo' ISO 100 of the Lo:01 setting. You will not gain any advantage in reduced noise, just longer exposure time to get the correct exposure.
It really depends what you want to do. The 16-85 is a nice contrasty fairly sharp general walkabout lens with a useful focal range (it's my stay on the cmamera lens). It's not particularly fast but you have plenty of headroom to bump the ISO up with the D90 if there's not a lot of light or you...
