D4 Problem (resolved with thanks to Nikon)

As far as I'm aware there's no mechanical lock to hold the mirror up. - That's why you need a nearly full battery to hold it up for sensor cleaning. The reason I suggested a cocktail stick is that you shouldn't be able to exert much force at the tip and it won't scratch. Have you tried using...

D4 Problem (resolved with thanks to Nikon)

I'm no expert but... It sounds like the mirror is staying in the up position. If it makes a noise when you turn it on/off, you could try setting the mirror in sensor clean mode then switching the camera off and see if that clears it. Otherwise, with the camera off and the lens removed, you could...

    Using studio strobes outdoors

I find wedding photos really boring. But after staring at that picture for a few minutes, well, it's a masterpiece! Fascinating... Frank

    group session

Personally, I'd like to practise more portrait photography. But then I'd quite cheerfully do still-life or most other studio-based genres. I googled your studio, cool! And you're well within range. Do you have secure parking? :) Frank

    group session

Perhaps if you posted in either of the two sub-forums with "meet" in the title. -At the bottom of the forums page. (I'm only trying to help !) Also when, where and what? Frank

    Lens

I feel your pain, bud. Nikon do some good landscape lenses. ps. You can turn your portrait lens into a landscape lens by rotating your camera!

    Still life book recommendation

For still-life, composition is relatively simple. Controlling the light, i.e. "family of angles" is well worth getting your head around, as is presenting textures. Keep reading Light, Science. :) Another, well illustrated book I've seen is...

    Elinchrom skyport or pocket wizards

I just looked it up and that is what they are saying. Which means you need to order the Skyport Speed RX USB Computer set. - That should be everything you need. I'm guessing that once you've set them to speed mode, they will stay there until you change them back, so you won't normally need...

Problems with over exposure on 60d

That would be difficult: you seem to have disabled comments on your Flickr account! Oh, and the pictures look fine to me..

    Extender Help

The minimum focus distance of the 70-200 is 1 metre. The physical length of the Sigma 1.4 extender is around 0.018 metre. It's insignificant, in this case. I was simply being helpful, not trying to impress.

    Extender Help

It doesn't change the minimum focus distance, so you'll get an image that's 1.4 times larger at the minimum distance.

Have Nikon shot themselves in the foot with the D4?

The XQD card is the reason that the D4 can shoot a burst of 100 RAW images. The extra speed probably comes in handy for highest quality video too.

    Extender Help

You get 1.4 times the focal length, so it becomes a 98-270. You also get 1.4 times the minimum aperture (1 stop) which becomes f4.
