I have a Nikon D5000, and an old but working Cobra D400 flash that I forgot I had until yesterday. Is it safe to use the Cobra with my DSLR? I'm trying to find a manual for the Cobra on the net, but no luck with that yet.
I bought the Cobra ages ago to use with my 35mm Olympus OM30: they...
I was recently in the market for a macro lens. I went for the Nikkor 105mm, but the review info here is one of the most useful I've read (and I've read a lot). It includes a bit at thend end about the Tamron 90mm.

staffitaxi: the Tamron can be bought here for about £260: http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=660
I've bitten the bullet and gone for the Nikkor. It's super-fast at focussing at non-macro distances. I thought the focusing would be similar to the kit lens seeing as they're...
I too have a question about 2 specific macro lenses. I'm looking to get a macro lens for my D5000 and I've narrowed it down to either the Tamron 90mm f2.8 or Nikkor 105mm f2.8 AF-S VR.
This review covers them both: http://www.bythom.com/105AFSlens.htm
They will both allow the D5000 to...
Apologies for the thread resurrection but it's directly relevant.
I'm also looking for a macro lens for my D5000. I've read somewhere that as well as not autofocusing, some lenses might not allow auto-metering (is this called TTL metering?). How do I know if a lens will allow TTL metering?
Is the Revell book more aimed at beginners, rather than intermediates? I have experience with a 35mm SLR so I know the basics about ISO, aperture and shutter speed trade-off and their effect on depth of field.
Does anyone on here own the D5000 book by Jeff Revell?

The David Busch book gets a few recommendations in this thread, but no-one has mentioned Revell. Revell seems to be...
Thanks for all the suggestions. Another feature I'd really like is an articulating LCD screen: my compact has one and it's proven very useful on several occasions.
Recently I've been thinking about a compact system camera (because they're a bit smaller), but I'm suspicious that it would be a...
Oh no, not another "What camera shall I buy?" thread! :) I'm afraid it is.
I've been thinking about getting a DSLR for a while now. I've currently got a Canon Powershot A620 compact camera, and an Olympus OM30 35mm SLR lurking in a cupboard somewhere that I've had for many years.
What I...
