Cheap Chinese smartphones - are they worth buying?

I bought one on a recent business trip to China. It was £50, but I guess it's cheaper from a market stall in Chengdu. It's really badly put together and the software is awful, but it works as a cheap way of making calls out there. Maybe the £100 models are better?

    Nikon D5xxx Owners Thread

I have the Yongnou YN560 and D5100. It triggers in S1 and S2 (using the on-board flash as trigger). It also triggers with a hotshoe-PC sync lead adapter (plus lead - total cost £10). I am about to buy some RF602 wireless triggers for £25.

    Ideas for new lens?

I guess I have two reasons to upgrade the glass: 1. Upgrade the kit 18-55 with something a bit more versatile (eg the 16-85) for a walkabout lens 2. Ultra-wide to increase focal length range of existing glass, hence 10-20 Then there is also the wish to start on the long road of acquiring FX...

    Ideas for new lens?

If I were to upgrade, it would be the d800 :-) Hence the lust after FX glass (but with a d800, crop mode with DX glass is still superb). The difference just isn't enough to warrant going for a d7000 :-)

Goodness me - 3 weeks behind..... And off to the states tomorrow. Hopefully the interweb will be faster and less restrictive than China, so time willing, I will be able to upload some pics :-) It's been a mental few weeks. Roll on Easter!

    Ideas for new lens?

Hi guys I have a Nikon d5100 with the kit 18-55mm, 35mm f1.8, 105mm f2.8 micro and the 55-200mm VR, with other accessories (e.g couple of bags, manfrotto tripod, yongnou flash). I am in the fortunate position to have in a week or two to have around £300 in Heathrow shopping vouchers (I...

Banksy mural - Who owns the copyright

The fact is, he put the art there on a privately owned wall, without permission. So it's within the wall owner's rights to remove it (and the wall) if he/she wants to. If the owner then chooses to sell the wall, for a huge profit, good on them! I'd do it too. If Banksy had wanted it to be...

Nikkor 105mm VR f2.8 micro not fixed aperture

So that makes me think it's described incorrectly. For example, the 18-55 kit lens with a variable aperture 3.5-5.6. When wide open, the diaphragm at the front of the lens is open by the same diameter, but different amount of light hits the sensor depending on where in the focal length/zoom...

Nikon repair - easy to replace part?

If its the kit lens, they are cheap as chips 2nd hand.... Would be cheaper to buy a replacement....

Nikkor 105mm VR f2.8 micro not fixed aperture

I have been playing with my new lens, and I have noticed that I an only get f2.8 when focussing at infinity, and when I focus closely, the camera reports f4.something. Surely then, it's a f2.8-f4.something lens, not a fixed aperture f2.8 lens as advertised. What's going on? Is it something to...

    weekly Spacester's 2013 52 thread: Week 8 - "Time"

Over exposed the foreground, then reduced exposure in PP by 1 stop. When converted to b+w, the dark grey turned to black. Also, the flash was off camera at an angle so didn't catch the background too much.

    weekly erling - 52 in 2013 - Week 12 Direction

Yeah i get what you were trying to do, but it just looks like a bag of rubble, destined for land fill..... Laziness, I could see, but not gluttony. But maybe I am just being stupid....
