    old lenses

All Minolta Auto Focus lenses since 1985 will work on just about any Sony A-series DSLRS/DSLTs, I think there is one exception( a medical lens ) . Minolta lenses are pretty abundant and many are excellent quality even today. The older ones are metal bodied and very tough. That said, the...

Is it now simply called Windows ?

They probably weren't sure which version they would be shipped with

Beginner Wanting to buy a new camera.

I would advise you to go for something digital - the immediacy of the results allows you to feedback improvements right away. Here is one of Sony's less popular models, which will probably be less than than £100 at the end. It is capable of good results, I used to have one. Other TP 'ers...

With second hand kit - does it matter where it was bought?

I buy quite a few s/h bits for my Sony cameras. Of course, I can source relatively inexpensive and high quality Minolta lenses, most of my lenses are Minolta. They can be nearly 30yr old. It wouldn't be realistic to expect any sort of provenance, I just want to see the current condition...

Easiest way to transfer SSD with Win 7 install to new PC?

If the NUC has a UEFI bios( I suspect it will have), then even getting Win 7 on to it will be a challenge. You might have to take the unpleasant option of trying to live with Windows 8 (I have:(). Watch out if it does, because it will mess up partitions on any existing discs you try to install.

    Fungus?

You are right, which means that getting some regular sunshine through your lens is the best prevention. Leave them on a window sill for a while if not using them. Fungus also needs a tiny amount of moisture, so keep them in a case with a dessicant, you can get things you dry in the oven on Evilbay.

    Tripod suggestions?

The 4 section version folds up just that bit smaller, it will fit into a case or backpack more easily, in theory you sacrifice some stability. I have a 3 section version, whilst it is an excellent tripod. I have more trouble persuading the OH that it is essential, when we go away.

    Weird Bokeh

Of course there is a simple explanation, but this isn't it. Schrödinger's cat - this is a simple quantum lensing effect. We all know that if no one hears a tree fall in the forest, then it's not there. Here we can see the effect of someone being half there, that is out of focus. We see the...

    Model suggestion for a Newbie?

I like the tracks too, watch out for trains, we don't want to lose a promising photographer. I like the brushes too, a great stroke.

    CS3 to Elements 8 ?

There are plugins which will allow you to access the colour channels more directly in PSE - I got one on the disc with Mark Galer's book. In practice there is very little you can't do with Elements that you can do with Full Fat Photoshop. It just requires some ingenuity, and a bit of Googling...

    Canon EOS 450D any good?

That's nonsense. In reality, there is no such thing as a crap DSLR. They are all extremely good, and a million miles ahead of any compact you may have had previously. Jessops sales assistants, are just selling whatever has best commission. I bought my Sony because it had a fold out screen...

    Annoyed Newbie!

I think get a good exposure on the car, then merge in your sky of choice in PS/PSE. There are tons of tutorials on the net, that will help you make a good job of it. Also, what about a bit of fill in flash to even the exposure out a bit. Not a difficult job with a Speedlight or two. As...
