Are Lee Filters Worth The Extra Money

Wot he said! They do seem to be made to a higher optical precision than just about anything else, so you get what you pay for.

    Canon EOS M Series Cameras

:D You can't fit an APS-C size sensor in the G12 - that's why the G1X is so much bigger. But I take your point - if Sony can do it in the Nex range why can't anyone else?

    Canon EOS M Series Cameras

Canon have stated that they have no plans for a CSC camera with a viewfinder which is a shame. I suppose if you add an EVF to the EOS M it would be almost as big as the EOS 600d anyway, but it would still be nice to have the option. The Olympus handles very nicely, but the EOS has the...

    Canon EOS M Series Cameras

Really? So you'd like a camera with a 1/1.7" (7.44 x 5.58 mm) sensor and EOS lenses? The lens on the G12 is a 6.1mm to 30.5mm zoom, which gives the coverage of a 28-140 in 35mm equivalent terms. So a 28mm EOS lens would have the equivalent focal length of a 128.5mm lens. Not very useful, and...

    Infrared camera

Depends what the filters are and what the camera is! We'd need more information to be able to comment. Having said that, any IR conversion would cost more than £30 so as long as it's been done properly, it's probably a bargain :)

    Camera for A Level photography

My son is doing A-level photography at the moment - just started the second year. At least half of the first year (AS) was with B&W film - it's still the best way to learn the basics after all! He worked in his summer holidays and saved up to buy himself a DSLR (Canon 450D) with a couple of...

    STUPID MISTAKE! Help needed!

I've used a utility called PhotoRescue many times to restore the contents of a card, and in spite of the name it will recover all types of file, not just photos. Many of these utilities are free to download and try, and you then pay for them once you've seen that they've worked.

    photo's at the NEC?

Last time I was at the NEC the lighting wasn't bad at all - quite bright enough for photography. Shooting in raw might make it easier to get the white-balance sorted out later, as there are mixed fluorescent lights.

    Carbon fibre tripod

Another vote here for a Manfrotto - you've already got the head. In fact the site sponsor sells a non-Carbon fibre one for a bargain £69 http://www.mpbphotographic.co.uk/used-equipment/used-tripods-and-supports/manfrotto-055prob/ The carbon fibre ones are lighter but not by a huge amount...

    Sony NEX-5N

I had several m4/3 cameras before going for a nex-5 (the older one), and the nex gives noticably better image quality, presumably because of the larger sensor. The range of lenses is more limited than m4/3 but there is now a reasonable set of Sonys, and with Sigma making a couple of very good...

Struggling with aperture or shutter priority, photos too dark

Yes, that button controls the flash exposure compensation so you can increase or decrease the amount of light the flash gives compared to ambient light. It won't be the problem here as it sounds like it's the normal exposure compensation dial that had been turned down.

    Silly question of the day:

Quite a good enlarger lens, and a bargain at under a tenner all in! Put a better description with it when you list it and you ought to turn a profit.

    Pentax LX vs MZ-S?

I don't think I've ever seen an MZ-S for sale anywhere! Unusual looking camera, but seems very highly spec'd. I have an LX which is much smaller than the MZ-S, and it's a silky-smooth ride! I was thinking of selling it, but I can't put it on here as the mods have removed my classifieds access :(

    Best Budget NAS?

"Best" and "budget" are mutually exclusive... If you really want a budget one, make sure you get it from somewhere with a good guarantee and returns policy.

    Canon 300mm f4

I had the Canon 100-400 L IS before, and swapped for the 300 L IS with no regrets. The 300 gives better image quality and is lighter and easier to carry. I rarely miss having the zoom as I often used at at the longest focal length anyway.
