Mine is the screw off type too. Since removing the black cover for the first time, when I need to have it on I have it just over the cap. Can't be bothered to unscrew the crown. Not the best design.

Updated mine using a mac. No problems encountered. Not had a chance yet to use the camera since the update. Hopefully later.
