Have you tried the "for Dummies" range of books? They have a couple for digital photography.
Digital SLR Cameras and photography for Dummies or
Digital photography for Dummies...
I haven't read them yet but have them on order from WH Smith.
Oh and before having the Sony DSC W300 I had a Sony DSC W55 which although was pretty featureless compared to the W300 it was a pretty good camera taking fantastic photos each time I pressed the shutter :)
I got a Sony Cybershot DSC W300 for £189 from Amazon. Ok, so it has 13.6mp BUT you can reduce size as people have already said and like others I shoot at 5mp. For me it was about how it looked and the features it had rather than the mp.
It takes lovely pictures and as a complete newb...
To start with I think I'd just like to take great family holiday photos, we are off to Disneyworld next month and there will be so many opportunities for some great photos that I'd like to be in with a chance of taking some of them :0) !
Following that I'd like to branch onto other things...

So, I'm new here. I've gone and bought myself a Sony Cybershot DSC-W300. I've been playing with it and I have to say - I haven't got a clue what I'm doing!
I guess what I'm asking is for some hints & tips on how to take some great photos on a compact camera - if thats at all...
