In case anybody is having the same problem as me I got the Hoya 77mm variable ND which fits ALL my lenses with no hood problems. Not quite as sharp as the Tiffen though but acceptable.

Anyone know of any variable ND filter that allows you to fit the hood as well. Bought a Tiffen and its too wide to get the hood on afterwards (unless i'm missing something).

If they are auto uploaded from your phone they won't be visible to anybody but you unless you change the settings so no need to worry. Look at it as a free backup.
I also have both lenses and would certainly go for the 300mm + 1.4 teleconverter. You get the best of both worlds with that combo and can shoot anything from butterflies to birds with its flexibility. Much better in bad light too.
Went through my 600ish photos taken yesterday and all the shots taken with my Kenko 1.4 DGX extender are overexposed. I used it on my 300mmL and 400mmL as I've always done with good results on older bodies (600d, 50d). Took another test shot when I got home and the results were the same. I guess...
I've looked at your bird photos and I would say that you should be aiming for at least 1/640 shutter with that setup to produce consistently sharp shots.
