So something a little different from the normal wild life (sorry in advance!).
This was my first outing with the lens and at a new track. Lydden Hill has probably the best viewing in the UK and the 200-500 was a little over kill and could probably have just used the 70-200 for the more tele...
I've only used mine a few times and was very surprised as the AF speed and accuracy. No it's not as fast as my 70-200 2.8 II however is very close and I wouldn't complain at the price point.
I should get a fair bit of use out of it tomorrow shooting motor sport so I'll report back then.
Ok so it arrived on Thursday and I had a little play with it that night and again yesterday and I'm blown away. The image quality is simply stunning and the VR is incredible. I'm not sure how you can get a sharp image handheld 1/160th at 500mm but apparently you can!
The other thing I noticed...
I would just like to blame you all for the order I have just placed... you should be ashamed of yourselves!
It should be hear just before World Rallycross at Lydden Hill so I'll report back then!
Donnington as a track isn't too bad, not overly friendly for photographers but not the worst either.
I have no idea what parts of the track they use for stages though...
Stuart you really need to stop this, this lens is becoming more and more tempting!
These are some of the sharpest photos I've seen from this lens.
How is the weight balance on the D5500 with this lens?
Anyone on here going to the Imperial Commercials Volkswagen Donington Rally next Sunday (March 6th)?
I'm thinking of heading over for a couple of hours just to shoot as I've not been out much this year!
Aha, they are some very nice shots. Interesting to see the image quality with a much larger subject in the frame.
I have found that as long as you're not getting the lens dripping wet they are normally ok with a bit of rain! I always try to air on the air on the side of caution though...
How...
Has anyone on here used theirs for motor sport? I would be interested to see/hear the results.
Does it bother anyone that it isn't weather sealed like the Sigma? I believe both the contemporary and sport are dust/splash proof.
Stuart, did you shoot the football match today? Are you able to...
Thank you David, it does sound like it should be a good venue for shooting, looking forward to heading down there for drift and rally cross events next year!
