Ideally you need to take a picture clear blue sky at f22. Then zoom in on the back of the camera or load your picture onto a computer and zoom in. This is how I noticed dust on my d600.

A couple of places that I really liked were Puerto de las Nieves, an old fishing village where you can see the Dedo de Dios (Finger of God). Aguimes is a sleepy town with lovely buildings and churches to photograph. It is also home to the camel statue in the alley - featured on many a postcard...
