    Exposure: Bird Photography

What Sony body are you using? I ask this because Sony have a virtually flawless feature in some (if not all) bodies called zebras. Get these rights and you can't overexpose as long as you set things up correctly, Here's how mine works. I set the camera up with shutter and aperture on the...

    Heron - Best Crop?

First one for me. A shot of a common bird needs something different in it to make it stand out, and this shot has some environmental interest. With a decent focal length lens, getting a heron portrait is relatively easy, so you either need great light or an interesting background to push she...

    Over processed images

From someone who knows nows the square root of zero but is still fascinated by astronomy photography, is it that bad, of just what we'd be able to see should our eyes be able to retain 5 hours of vision in one go? Just curious as I know nothing about it. With nature its getting to the realm of...

    Over processed images

I'm the first to admit I've not always got it right. However, I do agree that there is a trend of over processing to compensate for faults, and I think it may be down to 'auto ' and 'AI' features in software nowadays. There is so much sharpness and detail available when things are done right...

Bempton - is it worth going if it rains?

There are big variations there from day to day depending on the wind - some days they fly at a nice height, other days they are frustratingly below you. However, birds will generally take off and land facing the wind given a choice, so its a major factor for birds in flight Mike

Bempton - is it worth going if it rains?

I'd say the opposite Dave. When the wind is coming in off the land side you're going to get them facing you as they come in to land, otherwise you get them backing in. 2 1/2 hours each way for me and I don't bother going if its an east wind MIke

    Budget Canon longer lens

The mk2 is generally an excellent lens regardless of where you get it from, it’s the mk1 I’d want to test in person Have a look on camerapricebuster.co.uk and get it used from a reputable dealer where you can return it if you’re unhappy

    Budget Canon longer lens

You'll want at least 400mm if you're considering birds. For me, these are the options going up in price Canon 400mm f5.6 - around £500 - old but high quality. No IS if I remember correctly Sigma 150-600C - around £750. Not used one myself but have seen plenty of good work with this lens...

    Monitors for photo editing

As a general rule, Eizos are superb, but don't come cheap. If you can afford one they are top notch Mike

    Monitors for photo editing

This is one of those threads where everyone has opinions on offer but no single definitive answer, and for every suggestion, someone will be able to offer a counter-suggestion. I was very lucky to find an Eizo monitor for 50% price and its superb, but no way could have have ever justified its...
