This is the first time it ever happened in many years. I usually tighten the filter and then its a bit of a pain to remove it like you said. Safety first.

Hi guys, while I was on holidays taking picture on the beach, I was using a polarised filter. I rotated the filter and it fell off into sand. I didnt attach the filter properly :(
I cleaned it as much as I could, but not sure whether the super fine sand got inside the filter.

Thanks for replies guys! Swapping/unmounting the lens on the beach was one thimg I strictly avoided at all times, to prevent anything getting inside the camera. Hope the nikon fit is tight enough so I dont have to worry about the sensor.
