SLR falls 3000ft and lives to tell the tale!

I've had two similar things happen with Hasselblads the first after a fire in the studio when everthing was a loss on removing the lens on the hasselblad it worked fine, the other while on a tractor shoot, I laid the hasselblad on the ground as a guide to where to put the tractor, when I jumped...

ON LOCATION STUDIO SHOOTS (at home)

There is a very easy way to solve this if the subject isn't moving around too much ,and that's to use just enough white background, to give a white edge around the subject, but leave the rest black then afterwards select the black with photoshop and change to white. :)

    downgrading for travelling

I've been around the world with pro gear there is no problem if you are sensible, in thirty years as a pro I had one thing stolen and that was from my studio! One tip though always wrap the camera bag strap around your ankle when sitting at a table Phillip

Forty Days 'til Life Begins (and so it begins!)

After a total breakdown when I was fifty ,including mental hospital and having the same problems as you with no confidence, this following a career as one of the top photographers of cars in Europe, I threw it all away and have been on a steep recovery from there over the past 8 years . I am now...

Digital and the obsession with quality

I am totally convinced that the amateur photographer is and always will be, much more fanatical about quality than a pro, frankly quality is of secondry importance, to the subject matter and impact of an image. This of course doesn't go for the pro style Weddings Portraits etc. as it is...

    Home "Darkroom"

In the good old days I used a drop of washing up liquid in te last couple of washes this rel^placed the squeegy as it allowed the liqid to run of the film, only one drop though. As to finding the right temp ,try it before as it's a bit of an art to get it dead right. Phillip

    Close Up but not Macro

Hi well you need a macro lens ,that doesn't mean you can only do macro with it, you can use it for anything, it's exactly the same as a normal lens but has a closer minimum focusing distance, therefore a bit more expensive. . A cheaper soloution is to add a close up ring between the camera body...

First website - feedback would be lovely!

It's a nice site although I'm afraid one or two of the shots are not of very good quality, the small birds for example is not in focus and the main shot of Blackpool at night has definite movement. If you are planning to try to use this as a commercial site you must address these problems best...

    I need help!

Find out what her college uses it will almost certainly be a mac but if it's a pc stick to pc it's a lot cheaper , also bear in mind that I don't know many top pro's or design companies that don't use Macs.

    shooting for free

I can see why shooting for free is good for a novice, i've been there and worn the teeshirt, however if I were you get an agreement that you are paid purly on results and charge more for the prints to cover your time ,this should keep everyone happy. I suppose that's Dave's remark above

cant get my head around aperture

Don't get bogged down by all this the first thing to do is realise that when you want to read something a long way away you tend to screw your eyes up therefore you tend to bring the out of focus object in focus. Well it's exactly the same with a camera lens. Take it by steps from there on.

    Settings advice for indoor photography

If it looks good with the ambient light go for that, if not reflect some light to the ceiling and light subject with an umberella as well, keep the long exposure to bring up the ambient lights to warm the image a bit.
