Agree with the above I have the canon grip and it improves the feel and having the shutter release is just about a must when shooting in portrait..............well worth having IMHO

FP, have the non IS version, think ot is worth having just for the IQ. It is sooooooo good, I was in the same position as you but have not regretted getting the non IS..
Sorry to hear about the redundancy, that sucks!!! but at least something positive has come from a really bad situation. Good luck with it and you never know where this may lead.
I've had a 350D and now 400D and have had the grip on both, it makes it feel really chunky and much more balanced, would be pleased to hear about the armour if you go for it...

Macky, there is a different one in Abu Dhabi, the one you are on about is the Borg al Arab in Dubai, I cant remember what the Abu one is called but it looks like a massive palace.
Definitely take your gear, its not like NY or anything but the city has some amazing buildings, one of the worlds largest flags(amazing to see) and the desert just outside the city is well worth a go!! I bought a camera when I was out there, as I found loads to take....also gear is quite cheap...

I have a 70-200 F4L and I keep a UV on the front as I shoot a bit of Motocross and with bits flying towards me all the time I would hate to have the front cracked for the sake of a few quid as said above.......
