Wire Wool, is there a certain type?

Leather is even better than cotton (though we've only had it available as jacket, gloves & hat) We've used a dog lead for spinning which set the maximum total length to something suitable for vertical spinning & and with the wool in a kitchen whisk (replacements were needed). As well as open...

    5x4 Negative

That rather depends on the equipment/techniques used. My scanners wouldn't do even a moderately good job, but a decent negative scanner will out perform even the best camera for this. For my purposes photographing will probably remain adequate (though maybe via a contact print)

Do I Need A Filter As A Beginner

Polarisers are NOT the only filters that can't be replicated in software. Though the exceptions are rather niche - I use infra red filters quite a bit (usually with modified cameras, but also with older cameras that are more IR sensitive). Then there are specialist narrow band filters such as...

Do I Need A Filter As A Beginner

There us considerable debate about the effectiveness of filters for impact protection. Filters will usually break under minor impacts that the lens itself would not notice and the hard shards produced can scratch your lens. I've had a lens bashed hard enough in a motorway accident (the camera...

    Hi. just joined.

Welcome! The only surfing shots I've done have been of kite surfing, and only got relatively close during some very cold championships right back in April 2012 kite surfing at Clacton by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr kite surfing with windfarm by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Both of these were taken...

    London London Viewing areas

When I've been free to go round London timing has always been unpredictable, so anything needing booking hasn't been worth trying. I've been to the Garden at 120 twice & One new Change. The glass edges can be a bit of a pain if you don't have means to shade the glass, but I guess there;s no way...

Pentax Q series mirrorless cameras - open thread

Just found out where my wife hid mine. It's made by Pixco (I don't think there are many types around) I've not tried the toy wide, but I hear the toy telephoto is better, so going by mu copy of that I have no plans to bother.

Pentax Q series mirrorless cameras - open thread

If you have the auto 110 it's worth getting an adapter to use the lenses on the Q. The 24mm/2.8 is really tiny (12g) and effectively becomes a telephoto on the Q. Image quality is better than the O's toy tele as well. :)

Pentax Q series mirrorless cameras - open thread

I'm another fan of the Q series, having both an original Q & the later Q-S1 (which has a slightly larger sensor) with 5 different native lenses to use with them (Fish-eye, std prime, std zoom, telephoto zoom & toy telephoto) In addition I find them good cameras to adapt small lenses onto. The...

    Lens Board

Have you managed to get anything from it yet? I suspect it may not be worth the effort, but it is intriguing. My shutter options are much more limited than yours & I've not even had another go at shooting with a Galli shutter (two darkslides...) In reality a low light subject is likely to be the...

    Lens Board

The only examples I have images to share are a Delta 77 projector lens which has to sit VERY close to the ground glass for infinity focus (less than 1") mounting it within the bellows allows an image like this: delta 77 - GG removed by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Seems to work delta 77 - deluxe &...

    Lens Board

Not so sure in my case. It means I've wasted money on loads of lenses that aren't too useful for photography. :$
